Is anyone an MFA or an MFA candidate?
My advisor has been recommending for awhile now that I go for an MFA in theatre. He said it's good because it's the terminal degree in the field and I'll be able to teach at the college level with it. I found a program I LOVE. It just seems to suit me to a tee. I'm just scared. Is it totally impractical to go for another degree in theatre? And what is the deal with the MFA ? Is it lower than an MA (because I saw that somePhd programs don't want MFAs)?
Any advice would be great. Tis the season for grad school apps!

I was working on my MFA when I moved to Boston, and I still need to finish it. I will be doing my Phd in music, OR doing a DMA, so it's not a big deal for me to have an MFA. I would just call some places that have a PhD program that you might be interested in and ask them what they recommend. I haven't finished my program yet, so I don't have any definite answers. What do you want to get your PhD in? And yes, you can teach at the college level with your MFA. Although, as far as music goes, most schools prefer you to have a DMA or PhD, as well.

I think a MFA is a higher, more specialized degree than just a MA- and it might have more credits...

I'm not even looking into PhD yet but I was looking at Ticsh's offerings and they said MA or MS only, MFA doens't apply, so I was worried that maybe academia looks down on the MFA, even though it's usuay a more intensive program. As far as I know, it's equivalent to the MA, it's just a different approach.
