Is anyone currently working but planning to be a SAHM once the baby is born?
Are you letting your work know in advance that you are not coming back to work?
How do they handle maternity leave in that situation?
I plan to stay home once DC#2 is born this coming spring. not sure how to go about it.

a friend of mine did that and she told her boss what she was planning on doing and they were more than happy to give her maternity leave and then let her go after that b/c she was honest and upfront w/ them.

That's really generous! I know if I had done that, I wouldn't have gotten anything! We had actually gone through a round of lay offs right before I announced I was pregnant, I was SO hoping to be part of that lay off (since I was a PT employee), but that didn't happen.
I plan on letting my manager know in January I'm not coming back as planned in February.

Not sure what I am doing yet, but hoping to be a SAHM once DS is born. As long as DH gets a raise this December then we should be good, but if he doesnt then I dont know what we are going to do
I may just switch to working part time which would be ok with me, but I would obviously rather be home with my DS.

Right now I'm not planning on going back. However, I won't be telling work before I leave. Mainly because I want to wait until the baby is here to see how I react to being home all the time. I'm a first time mom with no baby experience and no clue how it's going to go. So there's a chance I might change my mind and decide to go back to work. If I decide not to I will tell them about a month before my expected return date so that they have a lot of notice.

Me. And how they will react is one reason why i haven't told them yet.
I am only PT, and my job is horrendous 85% of the time. I am going to say that I am not sure if I am coming back - but they aren't stupid. They know it is only PT and pay is low (a main reason why I will leave - day care would be more than I make in a week).
I am unsure how they will treat me. Plus the FT person I replaced left to have a baby and said she would come back - but then didn't, so there might be some lingering emotion from that.
I only wish i could quit right now and be a SAHP? lol

Re: Is anyone currently working but planning to be a SAHM once the baby is born?
I plan on it. But for me it things just fell into place.
We were notified last Wednesday that my department is laid off as of January 15th. We have the option to reapply for a similar job.
Instead, I will take the 14 week package offered, plus whatever other payouts I get for vacation, etc.
That Friday, 2 days later, I got the positive pregnancy test results.
I couldn't have been happier about the lay off and the timing. After 11 years, typically I should receive more of a severance (for my type of company).... but I'm not even going to harp on that. I'm happy with how things worked out.

Re: Is anyone currently working but planning to be a SAHM once the baby is born?
I do plan on staying home. I haven't told my boss yet though. I'm not due until the end of February so I figure I'll tell her my definite plans in December. I've been going back & forth with options, but in the end it just seems best for me to work from home (babysitting on the side for some extra $$).
I don't want to tell my boss too early because she's the type of person who takes things personal and is famous for her snide comments (I'd rather deal with that as little as I can) but i still want to give more than enough time for her to hire my replacement. I don't get paid maternity leave either way, so that's not even an issue.
