Re: Is anyone else completely disgusted by the "quality" of the wood furniture

knock on wood I love my Bernhardt Furniture bedroom set and will probably buy a dining room set by them too.
The furniture is so heavy, I can barely move the nightstand by myself.
ITA!!
I have a Bernhardt dining room set and I love the quality of it. Extremely heavy.
My aunt is the executive buyer of a large furniture company down here in VA and she said even though they are pricey, they are worth every penny.

I got my dining room table and chairs at Raymour & Flanigan and they're all solid mahogany.
hate to burst your bubble, but that's a mahogany finish, not solid mahogany...
no way R&F could sell solid mahogany at that price.. mahogany lumber wholesales at almost $3k/thousand feet!!!!
it's probably hardwood of some kind with a mahogany finish.
it's very confusing how furniture companies market their goods- a lot of times people think they're getting solid mahogany or cherry, but it's a finish.
That's why people think cherry means a "cherry" color- not true. Cherry wood does have a red tint to it, but in its natural state is no where near the color people THINK cherry is supposed to be. That's a finish.

The tables out there are nothing like our parent's dining room table. Solid wood and weighs a TON!

You should try Gothic Cabinet. They have very nice wood furniture that you can customize with stains, finishes etc and I find that the prices are reasonable. http://www.gothiccabinetcraft.com/

Re: Is anyone else completely disgusted by the "quality" of the wood furniture
Have you tried going to the Amish Country? I know they have stores that have reall wood furniture. I hate the fake wood out there...it's crap
I don't think that people buy furniture to last anymore...they just buy because it's in style and figure they will get rid of it in a few years and get the newer style. Soooo different from our parents and grandparents generations..

like the other lower priced ranged stores (JCP, pottery barn, C&B peter andrews, broyhill, ashley) R&F DOES NOT sell solid wood pieces. if that is what you were told, then you need to RUN to the store and DEMAND a refund.
even the mid range priced stores (EA, RH, DH, thomasville, bernhardt) does not offer sold wood pieces.

ITA with this!! and I am pretty sure that it's only been this way for the last 10-15 yrs.
solid wood furniture used to be readily available. I guess mfg's changed that to save $
eta: not sure what your budget is like, but Bloomingdales in Roosevelt Field has a furniture store. gorgeous gorgeous GORGEOUS!!!! the quality is amazing and every single piece I looked at there had dove-tailed drawers. I always check for that

Re: Is anyone else completely disgusted by the "quality" of the wood furniture
well I just checked bloomingdales.com furtniture site and several pieces said "solid ash wood", "solid cherry".
several collections I looked at were made in Italy and France - with prices to match but so
bedroom set
dinning set
this dinning set better be solid cherry at this price!
