I know, it takes a lot of money to win & this has been done before.

From NPR.org

North Carolina:
Obama and the DNC have spent about $5.2 million in North Carolina, while McCain has spent just more than $790,000.

Missouri:
Obama and the DNC have spent about $5.2 million in the state, while McCain has spent nearly $4.7 million.

Indiana:
Obama and the DNC have spent almost $4.1 million in Indiana, while McCain and the RNC have spent just under $247,000. By itself, the McCain camp has spent $458.

This is just three states!!!! Honestly, it is really necessary ? What a waste of money. No wonder we'll never have a third party that is taken seriously in this country.

I wouldn't mind so much if they were reaching out to the people to start good discussions about their ideas...but all to often it's negative campaigning, which I can't stomach - although I guess it's very affective (ie swift boats)

Re: is anyone else disgusted by the amount of money spent on campaigning?

I currently live in a swing state and the tv ads make me sick. I usually DVR everything and FF the commercials anyway, but I hate the negative ads. I also toss anything I get in the mail.

I do think it's interesting that I've been getting e-mails from one of the campaigns, and I actually dont mind them and read them, but I'm not sure what most of the money goes to.

Re: is anyone else disgusted by the amount of money spent on campaigning?

Just think of all the other places that money could have gone.

I understand that a lot of the money goes to votor registration - but still, the amount that is spent is ridiculous.

They need to SEVERELY limit the amount of time a person can solicit funds for his/her campaign - whether it's a re-election bid, presidential bid, etc. People in Congress start campaiging for reelection on day 1 of their terms!
