Is anyone else extremely bothered by all the children dying in cars lately??

I think in the last week, I've read of about five children being left in cars, etc. What is going on??? Is this the new way of premeditating your child's death?? How do you "forget" your child?!? I guess I just don't get it. I understand people get distracted, run late, etc. but how do you "forget" you have a child in the car during your entire workday?? The deaths these poor children suffer is just incredibleChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Is anyone else extremely bothered by all the children dying in cars lately??

I've been hearing alot about this esp. down here in TX and it has been VERY disturbing. I just cannot understand how one could forget their child, not for 5 or 10 minutes but the ENTIRE day?!?! Doesn't their child come into their minds at some point? don't they call in to check and see if their child is okay (for those who thought that their child was with someone else)? or check to see if they got home okay? I just don't get it. the thought of what those poor babies were thinking/feeling in those cars literally makes me sick. LITERALLY. My kids are 3.5 and 2 and there is no way that I wouldn't know that they were NOT in the car with me. Between the constant 4309583495 questions of what's this or that or wanting me to raise the volume on the radio, or asking me to change the station because they dislike a certain station or DD singing or DD hitting DS or vice versa. There is just no way that I could forget them in the car!

I'm sad to even say this but I think that there is alot more to this than they want us believe.

Bothered? Definitely.

It's the reason I've always kept my car doors locked at all times. I'm petrified one of my kids will climb in my car & wait to go somewhere or if a neighborhood kid is playing hide & go seek, they might be bold enough to hide there.

um, not a very PC term Chat Icon but ...if you cannot remember you have a child in the car, you need to be evaluated

Re: Is anyone else extremely bothered by all the children dying in cars lately??

I was at 7'eleven recently and a young dad was there with his daughter in the minivan...she must have been 5 or 6 years old...he left her in the van to go in the store and left the windows wide opened. I didn't say anything, but I think that's horrible...and an invitation for a predator. It takes ONE second for something horrible to happen!Chat Icon

I'm right there with you. I don't think there's any way I could FORGET my daughter is in the car. Even when she's sleeping, there's this "sense" of her in the area (her toys scattered everywhere, her cup, etc.). It's made me so paranoid lately when she's not with me that something like this could happen (while in the care of others).

I have to wonder if this is some parents excuse of getting away with murder. I'm not saying in all cases, but there's been so much of it lately. The one that broke my heart the most was the one where the three year old tried to get out. They could tell that he struggled out of his seat and even found a key in the car and tried to somehow use it to open the windows. That poor baby fought for his lifeChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Is anyone else extremely bothered by all the children dying in cars lately??

I'll go against the grain here - but, for the newborn/infant stage, a small part of me can see how this happens. I'm thinking, SERIOUSLY sleep deprived parent just returning to work, not used to having a baby in the backseat, and f the baby is asleep, I can see it happening. It's not an excuse, but I can see it.

For an older child, no, I believe most of these incidents aren't accidents by any means.

Either way, it's just horrid, and heartbreaking Chat Icon
