Is anyone else noticing more kids knocking on the door asking for money for school sponsored trips?
I am all for giving money for schlorship drives, girl scouts, boyscouts, etc. But I have noticed the past few days and last weekend, I have kids ringing my doorbell asking for money for trips and they are legitimate for the local high school . I cannot believe w/ all the school taxes I pay, kids are knocking on my door asking for money to go on trips- and when I told a kid who knocked this weekend, no thank you he gave me an attitude. Where are the parents? How could someone ask a kid to do this? After about 5 kids coming to my door I am just not going to answer it anymore. Keep in mind I give all the time to organizations . Is anyone else having this on there door step? When I was in high school they never did this, and we never went on such eloboarte trips to have to do this. Maybe I am just venting, please do not flame me.

Our tax dollars go into executive pockets.
When i was in high school, they constantly took away music programs, trips, and sports, but never exec. pay!!
They scare the kids into thinking thats the only way they'll get field trips... and you know what? It is.

schools don't usually provide funds for trips regardless of the budget, unless they have flex dollars in the department
so whether it's a trip to the next town over, or a trip to a different country, the kids have to fund the trip

maybe I did not word my post correctly- asking me for pure money is what is annoying me, asking me to purchase something would be a nicer way to do this. In all the years I have been living in my house- I own the house I grew up in, I have never had anyone ask for money for a trip- fundraisers yes, but pure cash, I think is crazy.

Re: Is anyone else noticing more kids knocking on the door asking for money for school sponsored trips?
When I was in high school we always had to contribute 5-10 dollars for the bus and the district paid the rest. I work in a district now that has cut all trips that are not essential to the class. It is against school policy to have the students pay for anything.
ETA: I would stop answering the door also!! I gave up wjen the football team came here looking for a 10 dollar donation for equiptment and the art program had recently got cut.

This seems logical, what school would endanger children by asking them to go door to door asking for funds?
I've had a few kids and even adults doing this too and don't bother opening the doors.
Even my daycare is soliciting money through random fundraising activities and I find that abit tacky, esp. for a private daycare.

i don't get why parents can't pay for their own kid to go on a field trip. I have no issue donating money to a cause, a special thing, etc but a general field trip no thank you.

Usually this is not for the little local field trip. It is for a big trip.
Growing up we always had fundraisers for the trip to Boston or DC. I don't find the fundraising odd at all.
I never went door to door because my parents woudl rather just pay for it but many kids parents do nto hav ethe funds to do so.

the school i work at is currently fundraising- and the guy from castle creations (fundraising company) told them it was illegal for them to go door to door. not sure if this is true or a scare tactic.

Exactly. I'm actually surprised that someone is surprised that there are kids with parents who can't pay for their field trip (or struggle to pay for it).
