Is anyone else's child totally non-aggressive? LONG
I know I should be thankful that he doesnt hit other children or take things from them, but he is completely non-aggressive and won't even stick up for himself when another child hits him or takes something from him.
Today at the Little Gym we literally just walked in the door and another little boy, about 2, came running across the room and literally tackled him. He knocked DS down hard and DS started crying. for some reason, this little boy kept going after DS trying to push him and hit him. I dont even remember seeing him in past classes but anyway, eventually I said something to the father b/c he was very laxed about it and reprimanding him. DS did nothing to this kid and even after he knocked him down when the little boy would come over and try to push him or hit him, instead of doing it back (which I know I probably dont want him to do) he would just walk away.
Than, at the end of class, DS was sitting on the mat waiting for a stamp and anther little girl came over to him and starting him on the head again for no reason other than she wanted to be in that spot. Again, he didnt do anything.
When we are at Mommy and Me, if another child tries to take his toy he'll just give it to them.
I am not sure if I am babying him or if this is just his personality. My husband is very layed back and tends to be non-aggressive (and oddly enough he is a cop...but work is a different story). The only thing DS has going for him is he'll probably be a giant compared to these kids in HS considering DH is 6'4"
Everyone tells me I should be happy he isnt aggressive b/c it is easier to teach them to stick up for themselves than to teach them not to hit and bite, etc. My mom said I was like that too when I was little until I was in middle school. I just dont want other kids to walk all over him. At home though he will say "mine" and take things from DH or I if he wants it, but maybe it is more of a comfort zone for him.

My son is the same way, and its true.... it is easier to teach them to stick up for themselves.
He is now 6, and he is still VERY laid back, but he has "found his voice" and has learned that its NOT ok for someone to be mean to him, and now he will tell his teacher, or me, if someone is being a bully. He is also at the point now where if someone bugs him, he will look them right in the eye and say "Leave me alone!" and will walk away.
Your DS is still young, so just keep telling him when someone is mean that "Its not ok for other people to be mean to you. If someone does something that you do not like, tell a grown up!"
Be grateful he is not a bully..... my best friends son is, and she has a HECK of a time taking him anywhere.

josh is the same but instead of being laid back he'll cry and whine if someone hits, bumps, or takes something away from him. BUT with us he's a total monster. i think they'll probably change a million times in the next few years and i try not to worry about it.
