Re: Is anyone involved in fundraising?
Before I became a SAHM I worked in development. What kind of role is he looking for? There are many different opportunities, although to be honest he might have a hard time finding a paid role in the current environment. Giving is way down at most non-profits and many have really reduced their development teams.
IMO he'd be best off to find an organization he's interested in and start out as a volunteer. It gives you the opportunity to get to see behind the curtain and decide if it's still something he wants to do. Then when an opportunity opens he has an inside track.
To be honest when I switched to development from corporate marketing I was stunned at how it was more stressful and cut-throat than corporate had been. I thought it was going to be all people who were passionate about the cause and that would make it more fun. At least where I worked senior management used to pit the development managers against each other. I wish I'd volunteered there first to get the real scoop about the organization's environment first.

Re: Is anyone involved in fundraising?
NYU SCPS has a few professional certificates in philanthropy I don't think you live around here, maybe he can contact them to see if there are similar programs in your area, or at least some ideas to help him make the change.

I don't have a book recommendation. I was a position that fell in my lap.
I'll ask a friend of mine. He's the CFO at a major charity.

Are you still in NC? I used the NC Center for Nonprofits website to look for jobs and learn about the various nonprofits in the area. He can also post his resume there.

Re: Is anyone involved in fundraising?
I've worked in fundraising/development/advancement for about 15 years......happy to help if you want to FM me any specific questions.
I'd initially suggest the Association for Fundraising Professionals (AFP) - as they have resources listed on their site, and you can locate a local chapter.

Re: Is anyone involved in fundraising?
The Foundation Center has a good website with lots of information about corporate and foundation giving. There are also "cooperating collections" across the US, check their site for locations in NC.
