Is anyone on here a member of a CSA?
(Community Supported Agriculture)
DH and I are seriously considering it, but it's only the two of us and we're not sure if it's realistic - you get a decent amount of produce, but would we really be able to eat all of it without it spoiling?
Any insight would be great! TIA

Re: Is anyone on here a member of a CSA?
My CSA offers a "Produce for Two" option -- half the quantity of produce for half the price of a full share. It's the perfect amount for DH and me. I bet a CSA in your area (I'm not in NY) has a similar option.
I've learned which produce needs to be eaten/cooked right away and what can stay fresh for a while. So spoilage isn't much of an issue.

Re: Is anyone on here a member of a CSA?
I did one a year or two ago. I was able to buy a half membership so I only picked up every other week. I was able to use most of what we received before it spoiled.
I decided not to do it again because I felt that I was spending a lot of time and money trying to find things to do with the foods we were getting. Some of it wasn't worth it to me, like pea shoots and kohlrabi that I just put into salads but they didn't really add anything.
I'm glad I did it because I learned about veggies I'd never heard of, but I decided I could spend the same $20 a week at a farmers market and choose exactly what I want.

Yes and I love it! Love getting food fresh from the farm. Mine has a half share option as well so I pick up every other week.

Gotcha. I had no idea that you could do "for two"/"half share" options. Definitely something to look into.
Thanks all for your insight!

Yup we use Golden Earthworm, they don't offer half shares so I actually split it with one of the lovely ladies here on LIW. We alternate weeks

Same here...I love it! Last year I did it by myself, but with just me and DH it was a lot of work to find ways to consume all the veggies each week. I would definitely consider starting with a half share if it's an option for you.

Re: Is anyone on here a member of a CSA?
I am sharing a full share with my cousin - we are alternating weeks. Some things last awhile in the fridge so I find this works well. I still have potatoes from last week. It is a lot of food for only 2 of us but I love the locally grown organic veggies. I think it is the right thing to be eating, if you can.
Also, the fruit is SOOOOO delish, picked fresh and ripe.
PS. I love Pearl Jam too!
