Is anyone on right now who has a dog who has eye problems?
My almost 11 year old brown lab, Hershey has something called indolent ulcers in her eyes.
Here is the story, about a month ago we noticed a cut on her right eye and brought her to our vet. We assumed the cat cut her eye (we thought that was the most logical explanation).
We were going every week back to the vet for a follow-up/check up to see how her eye was healing.
Well, it wasn't healing.
So, my vet set up aa appointment for us to go to Dr. John S Sapienza at Long Island Veterinary Specialists in Plainview. He is supposed be a awesome dog ophthamologist.
He diagnosed her with indolent ulcers in both eyes. Her left eye wasn't bothering her, but that is what he diagnosed her with.
He suggested that we let him do a procedure superficial keratotomy in her left eye.
We have to put 2 types of drops in right eye 3 times a day and 3 types of drops in the left eye.
Well, my poor Hershey is in pain now and can hardly open either eyes and has to wear that stupid collar.
I am so upset, she is miserable and I feel so guilty.
Has anyone dealt with this?

Thank you!
I know I should post on pets, but right now I just want support and advice at 12:35 am!
We just put the drops in and she is sleeping, but her eyes are so red and droopy and I swear I don't think she can see.
I am so ****** at this doctor. I feel guilty for not questioning him more. I hope we made the right decision for her.

What kind of eye problems does Boogie have?
Hershey is a bit more comfortable. I have an appointment tomorrow first thing in the morning with our local vet.
Phil and I both ****** off at ourselves for putting her through this. Our mind(s) say we did the best thing for her, but my gut says, "she is 11 years old and doesn't need this kind of stress"
If her left eye wasn't bothering her we shouldn't have let him do the procedure. We followed the vet's advice and did the procedure, he is supposed to be the best dog opthalogist on Long Island.
To tell you the truth, I didn't like him at all. He was very cocky and arrogant and made some weird comments to me.
I am not letting anything else that will stress her our and put her in pain be done to her.
Thank you for asking, this is has really been upsetting me.

About 7-8 months ago Boogie's eye came out of the socket- he was in a lot of pain- we took him to the emergency vet and they gave us two options- to remove the eye or to do surgery to put it back in, but it could happen again- we opted for the surgery- he was still a puppy and wanted to give him all the chances we could to see- when they took him in for surgery-miraculously it went back in- the vet hadn't seen that before- we have not had issues with it coming out again-but we keep an eye on it all the time and we are paranoid about it happening. He recently had a big red bump on the same eye, and the vet said it is because his hair is irritating his eyelid- he always has "wet" drippy eyes- apparently with shih tzus and dogs with those kind of eyes-it is common... he is not in pain though, but we are very nervous about something happening again
sorry your dog is going through this, it's stinks!
