is corned beef safe to eat?

DH said he looked it up before I ate it and said on a few websites that it was safe, so I had it. TOday my friend is over who is preg, whose dr. said it's in the same class as hot dogs, deli meats, etc which I have avoided. Anyone hear anything about corned beef?

I don't think that corned beef is the healthiest thing to eat during pregnancy but I doubt having some boiled corned beef is going to hurt you. It is thoroughly cooked.

The sodium content and nitrates are of concern to some. I craved bacon with my first pregnancy and had it quite often. I just made sure to drink extra water that day.

It's safe.... but from my experience (Wednesday), it isn't pleasent. I felt sooooo sick after eating corned beef and cabbage on St. Pat's day.... I think it was because it was so oily.

Personally, I think it's fine but I would definitely load up on extra water to flush out the sodium.

Re: is corned beef safe to eat?

it has a ton of nitrates which is why they say its like hot dogs etc. So long as you ate it hot it will be fine. Just remember to drink extra since it has a ton of sodium

I had it for dinner. It was heavenly and there is another half sandwich waiting for me tomorrow for lunch.

I also ate bologna by the pound when i was PG with Abby and she is normal - I think. Chat Icon

Re: is corned beef safe to eat?

I actually asked my Dr. about this and he told me its fine in moderation. So I ate it twice to celebrate St. Pattys day! HOpe you all enjoyed it!
