Me!! All about ME!

Is honesty always really the best policy?

So I noticed that my paycheck was a couple hundred dollars more than usual. I checked my paystub online and noticed that they paid me (again) for the first few days I worked prior to the begining of last payperiod.

I really thought that they would catch it one day and dock me when I least expected it, so I called HR to see if it was a mistake or if that was really money owed to me.

Well.. they thanked me. :They told me that it was their mistake. They would have never caught it, had I not called. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

ETA: They are docking the cash from my next check. Chat Icon

In situations like that, I know that "I" feel as though I did the right thing. As much as I would love the extra $$$, my integrity (if the error was ever discovered) would be worth more to me (and to my employer).

You never know, it could have been caught somehow down the line. And you wouldn't want the embarrassment of being called out on keeping it.

It was the right thing to doChat Icon

You def did the right thing, otherwise this would keep eating away at you. Better to have a clear conscience. And like you said, they would've caught it and docked you when you least expected it, prob when you really needed it the most. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Is honesty always really the best policy?

like everyone is saying... it IS the right thing and you wouldn't want to give them any reason to doubt your integrity down the line, OR to have them dock you at a time you needed every penny.

you did good

I agree you did the right thing...

PLUS...I have a friend who did not report getting paid twice in a pay period from the NYC Dept. of Ed. about two years ago.

She only worked as a teacher for 1 year before going back to grad school and now TWO years later, NYC DoE has come back to collect the overpayment!!!

So she's had to cough up all that money or face legal action!!!!
