Is it a phase or is he going to be jumping off the roof by age 5?
Josh is definitely a climber. We had to bring back two baby gates because he made his way over them.
Life is a big obstacle course to him. He can't just play with his kitchen, he has to remove the drawers to stack them, stand on them, then he will play with it.
Now, he climbs then jumps. Jumped off the ottoman twice today and flew off the club chair. I feel like a live with a monkey who needs a cage.
Took him to the park this afternoon, he climbed the ladder to the thing in a matter of seconds.
Will he grow out of this? The other little boy I watch has zero interest in climbing and just goes about his business. He thinks Josh is a nut, once he was standing on the window sill. Thank God I know better to ever open a window but this is crazy

Steven's a climber too! He's not as bad as Josh, but I'm sure if we had a bigger place, he could do some serious damage.
My mom said it's a phase that will last a long time

My kids are all climbers. They do gain a healthy sense of fear for some of the crazy antics you are describing but they still have to be watched more than a non-climber. I hope your furniture is bolted to the walls. My DD is especially athletic, climbs like a monkey, always has.
ETA: LMAO! We had 2 baby gates in the doorway with both my older kids (not there yet with #3) My son's room is at the top of the stairs and it would look like a caged animal sometimes when you'd walk by the stairs and see him trying scale the second gate. A veritable zoo around here!

what furniture? luckily we have nothing...we are constantly moving so holding off on getting anything.
I do have a dresser in my room, he's not allowed in there, but that's not a bad idea to figure out how to strap it down to something.

They sell things at one step ahead that you can attach the furniture to the wall. I did it to all of our stuff.

Re: Is it a phase or is he going to be jumping off the roof by age 5?
seriously, we have a small apt! I think its under 1000 sq feet.
FOUR baby gates up! and we don't even have stairs! I feel like I am training for hurdle jumping.
he hasn't been allowed in the kitchen since he figured out how to open the oven. bathrooms are out, he can climb into the tubs, I am scared he is going to turn the water on.
forget about our dreaded balcony. I will never buy furniture to put out there.

Neither of my kids were climbers but it sounds like he's got a lot of energy to burn up.
