Is it bad to sleep on your stomach?

Every night I start on sleeping on my side- most of the times I stay like that- but the past couple of mornings, I've woken up sleeping on my stomach. I know there will come a time where I wont be able to sleep on my stomach because of my belly- but is it really bad to do this now? Its not like I know I'm doing it.

My doctor has no problem with it as long as I was comfortable. But she warned me that by my fourth month she would prefer to have me on my sides...with the left being the first choice.

It's good that you try to sleep on your side as much as possible so that you can start getting used to it.

Any ideas on how I could stop sleeping on my stomach just to get used to not doing it?

I have tried several things...what helped the most was body pillows in front and behind me. I just got the snoogle and love it but any body pillow will do. I sleep with the pillow in front of me so that I can sort of lean into it - makes me feel like I am getting as close to on my stomach as possible. But I keep a pillow in the back because for some reason my body refuses to roll over onto it which is good. Once in a while I wake up on my back but I just roll back over. I will say that sleeping on my left has become less and less awkward since I have been doing it for a while now. We just have to reprogram ourselves.

Its really hard cuz sleeping on my left side isnt as comfortable as sleeping on my right side- but you are right, I guess I just have to reprogram myself.

I stopped sleeping on my stomach because it started bothering my lower back. I would put a pillow next to me to stop me from rolling onto my stomach.

I slept on my stomach for a while. Your body will let you know when you cant do it anymore. Now i sleep on my side and its so uncomfortable because my hip kills me and i have to switch sides every hour to hour and a half.

I say do it while you can because one day you will go to sleep and just not feel comfortable on your stomach and that is the end until a little after you ahve your baby.

i just recently stopped and i am 15 wks. i don't have much of a belly yet but for some reason i found that i had a hard time breathing while on my stomach. it could be psychological but i feel short of breath while on my stomach. i am really bummed about it b/c stomach sleeping is how i got my best sleep i haven't slept solid in weeks!

I occasionally wake up and I am on my stomach too. I am only 8 weeks along and the Dr said to just try to get as much sleep as possible and your body will tell you when it can't do it anymore. I am going with that theory...

I was sleeping on my stomach as well, but I also just got the snoogle (which is the best thing in the world!!!!) and that totally helps. I lie on my left side and put it in front of me, so I kinda get the feeling I'm lying on my stomach.
