You really need to discuss this with your tax professional.

Every situation is different and it can depend on income, tax credits, itemized vs. standard deduction, etc.

For the most part, MFJ is better for married couples to get the maximum tax benefit for credits....but there are some scenarios where MFS might be a better option for the taxpayers involved.

If you do not use a tax professional and do it yourself with a program, then most of them do have a comparison chart after you enter your info for Married vs Separate.

your accountant would be able to tell you what would work best for you. everyones situation is different..

we were told to file together because ion ur first year of marriage u get more back and they were right..we had our biggest return last yr
