It could happen, but I wouldn't be concerned if they don't.

Re: Is it common for toddlers under 2 to be forming full sentences?
When I brought Marron in for yer 18 month visit, and the doctor heard her putting several words together, she said that was advanced for her age. She said at that point that if she was putting 2 or more words together, regularly, that it was ahead for her age. Not sure about 2 years old, but I'd think most do not make full sentences yet. Marron definately makes full sentences (20 months old) and has been for a few months now, do it is not unheard of. She sometimes gets the pronoun or the tense wrong, but hey, she is not even 2 yet!

Re: Is it common for toddlers under 2 to be forming full sentences?
Not common. At least that's what I was told by our pediatrician & the person that evaluated Joseph.
At Joseph's 2 year old appointment, I told Joseph's doctor I was concerned that he wasn't using his articles (ie I want bottle, instead of I want THE bottle). He told me that at 2 years old a stranger should be able to understand only 40% of what a 2.5 year old says & not to worry that he sounds like he's foreign. Speaking clearly & in full sentences wasn't expected until much later.
When we had Joseph tested for behavioral issues, they do a full work up of all his skills. He was in the 98% in verbal ability because he was speaking in full sentences.

DD would put 2-5 words together around 18 months but our doctor said it's not really the norm for sentences that early.

olivia wil lbe 2 in 2 weeks and is saying full sentences and 7-8 words together. she can sing the abc's song, knows her numbers and says so many different things. lately dh and i are scratching our head at the things she says. yesterday she told me mommy you need to have patience. and the other day said somebody turned off my light. its very easy to communicate with her and know what she needs.

I have been told by a few people that Roman seems advanced because he speaks a lot. To me he's just good ole Roman with an adorable personality but I started to wonder when people started giving us names of schools for gifted children.
Definitely gets daddy's brains (and good looks)

Re: Is it common for toddlers under 2 to be forming full sentences?
The norm at 2 years old is to have a vocabulary of about 50 words and they should be starting to put together 2 word phrases. At 18 months they should have about 10-15 words. Some kids definitely talk more sooner, but if they don't it's nothing to be concerned about. Just like other developmental milestones there is a range of development. (I'm a speech pathologist BTW.) Also, a word doesn't have to be clearly articulated and understood by everyone to be counted as a word. If a child consistently says the same thing to refer to something I would consider it a word (eg. bah for ball)

Re: Is it common for toddlers under 2 to be forming full sentences?
The twins started talking early and by 18 months you could have a full fledge conversation with them...They were so very tiny and yet they had this amazing vocabulary and ability to speak...basically from 18 months on you (or a stanger) could understand everything that they said...
There is such a broad range of what is normal..I remember being with them in the supermarket and having some other mother hear them talking and ask me how old they were...I always tried to make a point of explaining that they were tiny for their age and that they were very early talkers....
They are almost 9 years old now and although they definitely have the "gift of gab" and still hold that extensive vocabulary..they are average students.
