We have our very own with Mel (and I have good feelings about it). I am on another board when I was doing IVF. There were 8 of us, 6 successful IVF's. Out of that 1 set of triplet and 2 sets of twins (so far, there may be another). Then we heard on the news about the identical triplets from LI and the quads from Baltimore. Maybe I'm just more aware of it.
I'm just feeling it happens more than our RE's want to admit.

You always run the risks of multiples when you do IVF. The only way to not risk multiples is to only transfer one egg and even then, there is the risk of it splitting. This is what happened with the identical triplets.
The statistics aren't wrong and the drs. aren't not telling the truth. When the statistics come out, it only compares the number of transfers and successful live births. What it doesn;t tell is the number of embryos that are transfered, so you really don't have the entire picture.
In addition, using injectibles and IUI runs even a great risk of multiples because there is really no control over the number of eggs released. I have known a few women who were pregnaant with quads because of this!

Re: Is it me or are there a lot of multiples lately?
i agree. That's why my last IUI was cancelled last week--- because I had over 15 mature follicles that would've released. My dr. said he didn't want me being the first female from NY to have octuplets from an IUI.... my dr. has always been up front w/ me that there was a good chance we could have multiples... but that was a chance we were willing to take. Honestly, I would love nothing more than to have twins or triplets, and never have to go thru this process again. I grew up with an older brother and can't think of growing up as an only child. I know plenty of people who have, and some of them HATED it, because now that they have children they can't relate to their sibling rivalrys, and others who loved it... DH and I have always wanted 2 or 3 though.

I think the twin rate with IVF is around 30%. Trips and higher are much rarer.
