Seriously, 6:50pm on a Saturday night for a 5 year olds b-day party at a bouncy place. My kids are going to be shot by 7pm, they usually are in bed by 7:30 for the night. I wil never get my husband's Argentine friends, they do everything so late. Chat Icon

I think it's fine. But.. my kids don't go to sleep until 8:30.

It's a special occasion so I'd probably let them stay up anyway!

To me, that seems late for a 5yo b-day party.

Same.

Not to say I wouldn't go, but I would feel it's late to start a party at that time.

We started our kids-friendly New Year's party at 6pm... but I think that's a little different.

Yes, 6:50pm for a kids bday party is late.

I have a friend who had her son's 4th birthday party begin at 7:00 on a Sunday night. AND we live in NJ and they are on LI.

And they are having their son's 5th birthday party this year on a Saturday morning at 9:00.

But we always go! Some people leave the birthday planning until the last minute and then all the options that are left are the really late or really early times.

well it's definitely later in the day, but not too late for me to consider not going.

my son stayed up partying on Christmas Day night until 11 pm Chat Icon he likes to get his groove on at all hours.

plus, by 5 years old. I think they are fine for that.

We are definitely going. I wouldn't not take my kids to a party b/c it starts at 6:50. It just leaves me Chat Icon to start young kids parties so late in the day.

Like I said above, it's possible they left the planning until last minute and that's the only time they had left. That's usually what I think when we see these parties at such strange times. Because I can't see anyone really wanting a children's party starting so late. KWIM?

I thought it was late until I saw this. I think it's late, but for people I know who are south or central american, it's not considered late at all. Chat Icon

I wouldn't bring my children to a bouncy place at what is really 7 pm for a birthday party for a classmate. NO WAY. But that is what I do for MY kids because I will be the one facing the consequences. Many would have no problem with it, obviously.

Re: is it me or is 6:50pm a bit late for a 5yr olds bday party?

We went to a 4yr old bday party at bouncers and slydos last year and it started around that time on a Friday night. I think it was the only time left that they had that worked for the parents and, you know what, everyone was there and had a good time! It is a little on the later side but, everyone has to do what works for them. So, if it doesn't work for you guys - just don't go.

True to that . I remember being in Argentina with DH (we were dating at the time) and his brother had his 5 yr old out at a show at midnight with us and then out to a cafe after the show.

I was just looking to see if anyone else thought it was odd. They are very close friends and of course we are going and we will have a great time and probably go back to their house after the party too (since they are in NJ and we are on LI). When scheduling my parties I try to make them on the earlier side especially since I know there are younger siblings involved as well.

And there's your answer right there Chat Icon. I was just having this discussion with DH the other night. On Christmas Eve my SIL was over with her kids and they left early b/c it was getting past their bedtime. It made me start thinking about how we grew up. I"m Hispanic. On Christmas Eve or any other parties/holidays, there was no such thing as doing things 'early' or scheduling around naps (shoot, most of the parties were really for the adults anyway, lol). Everyone was up. Eating, dancing, drinking and just having a good time. Whichever kids couldn't hang Chat Icon would be put to sleep in one of the bedrooms. That's just how it went. I know I try to work around DD's napping and sleep schedules but it definitely is a cultural thing.

ITA. My mom is central american and my dad south american- they have acclimated to doing things in "american" time but my DH's side of the fam still has these late night parties for the kids...they showed up to my DD's 1st bday party (which was set to run from 2-5) at 10PM!

Yes, I think it's late. They may invite younger kids too...4 or 3 year olds. Whenever anyone invites my 4 year old, they always include my 21-month-old. Both of my kids are in bed BY 8:30.
