Is it normal for an infant to play with his/her hair?

My son is 11 months old and plays with his hair all the time - runs his fingers through it, pats, it pulls it, etc. He does it when he is falling asleep, eating, and playing. It is starting to worry me!

Lily is 4 months and likes to play with her hair mostly when she's eating. I think it's pretty normal.

My DD went through a phase a few months ago when she played with her hair exactly like some other family members did.

My MIL said my SIL did the same when she was a baby.

It's probably just a way he soothes himself.

Paige does this sometimese and she mostly pulls it. It makes me crazy. I looks like it hurts. I guess its somewhat normal.

Alex does this too - eating or tired or when she is cranky. She came out of me pulling on her hair and hasn't stopped since!! I'm not worried about it.....so I think it is normal...

Jules was a baldy until about 18 months, but now she does at 2 whenever she is tired of drinking her "warm mook"...

My older son used to curl the top part of his hair around his finger to put himself to sleep. He gave himself a BALD PATCH from doing it so much! Chat Icon Chat Icon He stopped doing it when he was almost 4 years old! Chat Icon

John has been doing it for awhile now. He pulls so hard, he looks like his hair will fall out. Chat Icon
