is it ok or should i stop (sleep)?

ds (5 months) has been sleeping VERY poorly for the last 2 months. he wakes all night between 2-10 times lately. i don't feed him but have to help him back to sleep (patting, rocking, music.) it's the same for naps now too. if i don't help him back to slepp then he will cry harder and harder and then be up for a much longer time.

my question is for naps, should i continue to sooth him (pat his back) or should i let him cry and hopefully learn how to self sooth? i'm worried that if i'm always there to pat his back then he'll continue to need me to do it all night long.

what would u do?

tia!

We started to let her cry during naps since she couldn't be soothed back to sleep- it just made it worse.

It made such a difference. She began napping really well. Only for a few minutes at a time, but evenutally she did learn to self-soothe.

Ultimately it's all about what you are comfortable with.

We let Lucas cry it out and fortunately it was a quick learning process for him. Now he has no problem going down and staying down for naps and bedtime. If he wakes at night we either let him go back on his own or feed him a small bottle. We are starting to learn which to do based on his cry.

5 months is def old enough to start to teach him how to self soothe.

I could never let dd's fully CIO, but i do let them fuss themselves to sleep and back to sleep. DH and I agreed that they would never full out cry more than 5 mins and usually it never gets that long. Both my girls sleep through the night since they were 7-8 weeks old, 1 with the miracle blanket one without.

I say do what your comfy with but for us, we used a combo of techniques from the no cry sleep solution and Secrets of the baby whisperer.

GOod luck!
