Is it OK to let DS (5 months) sleep in your bed when he's sick?

DS has a cold. Congestion, cough, sneezing. He sounds congested and I can hear that he is having trouble beathing, but he doesn't act sick or bothered in any way during the day. For the past 3 nights though, he's gone to bed at 8 p.m. (somewhat easily), woken at 1 a.m. for bottle and then wont' go back to sleep in his crib. I tried for an hour each night. He falls asleep within seconds in my arms, but as soon as I put him in his crib he wakes up and cries and cries. I have to wake up for work at 5:30 a.m. and after an hour of this each of the past 3 nights, I just didn't know what else to do, so I took him to bed with me and DH. All three nights, he slept peacefully, although snoring Chat Icon , in bed with us until morning.

I am trying to establish healthy sleep habits and I'm completely stressed about doing this. I just didn't know what else to do. We were doing so well and then he got this cold. Plus, his Christening is on Sunday, and I'm praying he doesn't get sicker. Chat Icon

How bad is it that I let him sleep with us? Do you think it was just because he's not feeling well and needed to be comforted, or do you think he's going to want to sleep with us even when he's feeling better? It's only been 3 nights, but I don't want it to become a habit that he gets used to.

Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thank you.

He is still so young, I'd just do what you can to survive at this point!

I think it is fine. We start our 5 week old baby out in the bassinet and then after her 3am feeding we put her in bed with us. We love it and she loves it. I think it comforts her to be with us.

I think it is OK to let him sleep with you. DS gotten sick at 4mths old and I put him back into his cradle to sleep in our room at night.......Then a few weeks ago at 10mths old he had gotten a cold and was back in our bed to sleep that was the only thing that soothed him. I say whatever works works!
I didnt have any issues putting him back into his crib after those times. Chat Icon

I agree do what you gotta do....DS is almost 6 months and also has a cough. He'll go down easily, but in the early morning he'll wake up coughing or sniffling. So I'll go get him and bring him to our bed until he falls back asleep and put him back. A few days ago I woke up 4 times and I was so tired the last time, I just let him sleep with us. I was a total mess going to work the next morning.

We did it everytime they got sick.

At first DH was against it. Then it occurred to him that when everyone (including me) he knows gets sick, they want to go home & crawl in their mom's bed. He didn't have that type of relationship with his parents but he wants his kids to have it with us.

Hope he's better soon.Chat Icon

i think its ok but i willsauy this.. she never came into our room excoet in teh morning for her bottle when she was 6 montshold she was very sick, bronchitis , flu etc.. she slept in my bed wiht me bc i was soo nervous. Then when she was well she only wanted to be in my bed.. it took a while and many crying nights to get her back in her crib .. i dont regret it bc i know she needed me but it wasnt easy...
