As far as I know, hotdogs in general are not "healthy" but I do not think there is any danger in giving them at age 1, except for of course the choke hazard that they pose ( that is why they are to be sliced vertically and opposed to coin shaped horizontal pieces) ...My DH is not a fan of hotdogs ( nitrates etc..) so we did not give them to my DS until he was much older and even then, on a very limited basis...

We waited a bit longer...maybe 15 or 16 months. DS loves them and we try to use brands that don't have fillers...I cut them up in small pieces for him.
