Is it okay to have mulch up against the house?
My house does not have a basement. It's slab on grade. Is it okay to have the mulch bed up against the house where there is no concrete? I am worried about mold and also attracting termites. Any other alternatives to mulch that won't attract termites?

The first year we lived in the house we did this, and the next year we had termites. I dont know if the two were connected. From then on I spent extra money for rubber mulch. You can put that right up against the house

i have read you should keep about 1" from the house, we put it up against it but since have pushed it back a little.

Interesting! I've never heard of rubber mulch. Thank you!
Oh my! Rubber mulch is expensive. I'm afraid my dogs will eat them.

its also harder to see termites if you are on a slab. My dad had them 3 years consecutive, I would stay away from the wood mulch, how about gravel?

You will have termites with or without mulch if you are on LI....its the sandy soil we have here there is no way to completely avoid them.
The houses I grew up in always had mulch and we treated for termites and never had major issues.
So I would just make sure you treat your house too.

I have rubber mulch in my flower beds against my house. I also heard that termites do not like cedar mulch.

No we are on a slab and have mulch up against the house.Its caused a moisture isssue and we need to remove it and waterproof and relay it

This is good to know-we put rubber mulch down this year so now I don't need to worry!

I'm going to look for cedar mulch.
We do have termite problems and our exterminator treats our house every year and replaces the baits so I don't want to add to the problem.
I don't know if this is true or not but a friend of mine told me that termites do not like mulch. They only feed on dry wood so if you keep the mulch wet, it shouldn't be a problem.
