Re: Is it really bad...
I would just limit your caffiene intake all together, choose where you want to get it from

Re: Is it really bad...
I think everything in moderation is ok. My dr said a glass of regular soda or tea once in awhile is ok but I would def. try to keep it down to a minimum.

Re: Is it really bad...
I have a can of regular coke some days, but I generally try to get the caffeine free kind. I am sure a can a day is fine.

Re: Is it really bad...
I always swore that soda didn't do anything wrong to a growing baby. I drank one of those huge cups of soda from 7-11 everyday. My son came out healthy and was a big happy baby. A few times in his short life he had 2 breathing problems where he needed to go to the ER and have a little oxygen, then he would breath normal. When he was almost 5 months old he stopped breathing. Once he passed it said SIDS. The other day I was reading a baby magizine and it had a little fact box that said something like "caffine has been linked to SIDS, it affects the lungs growth." My heart dropped and I haven't had a sip of soda since. Caffine is in over 220 foods and drinks. I am sure I still get caffine from other things, but I know I won't be risking it this time. Don't get me wrong, I know plenty of woman who drank soda and have healthy babies. I would just say limit what you drink. I have been have bad headackes from not drinking soda, but in the end it was all worth it. I swear, I am not trying to scare anyone.

First off, I wanted to say I was heartbroken to read what happened to your little boy...I wish you nothing but good things to come and congrats on your pregnancy!!!
I'm sure you've heard this many times, and although i'm not a doctor i can tell you that nothing you did caused that to happen. I have been assured by doctors that the only possible thing they have seen from women who consume huge amounts of caffeine is possibly a low birth weight. And to have that happen, you need to literally be consuming glass after glass of constant caffeine. They say 300 mgs or less a day is fine. One 8 ounce cup of soda has approximately 18 mgs. So you'd have to have 15 glasses a day to surpass that. Just a thought i wanted to pass on. AND coffee/tea contains a lot more caffeine than soda, (around 100 mgs per 12 ounce serving) so you could even have three cups a day and be alright.
Sorry for the long response. I just wanted to post some stuff i had been told. Good luck to everyone!!

Re: Is it really bad...
I was a very big Diet Coke drinker - in fact would have it for breakfast. When we decided to TTC, I stopped drinking it cold turkey. It wasn't easy to do but I feel a lot better that I did do it.
And to ABCiverson: I can't even imagine your pain. May your little boy be remembered in every heart & soul he ever touched.

Re: Is it really bad...
My doctor told me I coul dhave up to 500mg of caffine a day. I dont have anything close to that but I do have a small cup of coffee on most days and she said that is 100% OK.
I dont drink soda or iced tea though.
