My front yard, the lawn and my neighbor's connects. What I mean is there is no driveway separating, just one big lawn. Our neighbors, the kids are using both front lawns as a ball field. I watch balls bounce on my cars, knock my planters over, scrambling in my shrubs. Some are waiting right near my car to retrieve ball. We asked them if they can limit to staying on their property but it's not working. Neighbors before us had kids and they never did this. Is it flat out rude to suddenly put shrubs on property line or put up a very low fence?

I think it's more rude for them to have no regard for your personal property Chat Icon

Nope, just make sure it's permitted. In my town you cannot have fences beyond the house line unless you have a corner lot.

Not at all. As the pp mentioned, check to make sure you do it legally and go for it. That would drive my DH insane but then again, he'd just go out there and scream at their parents most likely.

Absolutely not. You've asked them nicely to try to stay off your property and they don't listen. I say go for it

You're a good sport for putting up with it for a while, id be livid if my car was getting damaged. Some people are totally entitled and they raise their kids in the same way.

It is your property you can do as you wish as long as your town does not have any regulations against it. I have a low fence around my front yard that was there when we bought the house- I like that it keeps people off my lawn.

I don't think it's rude if you have tried talking to them already. Not to mention what happens if one of them gets hurt on your property or damages your property. Just make sure you follow rules of your municipality

I wouldn't worry about seeming rude. The kids and the parents are assholes for not following rules.

I would probably put up fishing wire or an electric fence and sit in the window sipping lemonade while watching them trip or get zapped.

go for it...

check what town rules are... houses not on corners in our town seem to only be able to put 3 foot fences past the house line to the sidewalk.

My neighbors did this. It had nothing to do with keeping kids off property. Yet their kids are still all over our front yard!Chat Icon They are constantly bouncing balls off our car and playing hide and seek around them! We have had multiple problems with the parents. Now if I am home I set my car alarm off anytime a ball or kid touches it! I feel you pain! If my kids want to play ball we go to the park 1 block away! I just don't get some parents. I hope it works for you!!

I would put up a fence, and make sure it's tall enough that they can't just hop over it. Because it sounds like they would if they could.

i would absolutely do it. I do not allow my neighbors children to play on my property. If they fall or get hurt while on my lawn, its my responsibility.

How do you approach a parent about this? These are fairly new neighbors. I don't want to come across as a beotch, but its only a small piece of property and I feel like it's being taken over. Trying to make our lawn nice too, paying landscaper to do seeding and fertilizer, etc. Sometimes after sprinklers go off, they are out there shortly after. Ugh...

Put hedges or a cowboy fence if you can. Talking to the parents will only result in tension I am sure.
