is it safe to play music to your unborn child with headphones?

I've heard mixed opinions. What do you think or been told?

Thanks.

I'm just curious what could possibly be unsafe about this?

I don't know if it's safe or not, but frankly, I'd like Crouton just to concentrate on mom's voice Chat Icon

I consider it to be a big part of the maternal/baby bonding thing

My Dr. said it was fine. I played low music almost every night when I was pregnant.

I do. BOSE. Very nice. Ed-lie likes Mozart and Chopin and responds very nicely to both composers consistently. Both she and I are healthy. We try to listen while I gnaw on bologna and feta cheese sandwiches with a coffee chaser.

Exposure to music has been linked to increased intelligence and frankly, we arent rolling in it so we would like to increase our chances for an academic scholarship for college as early as we can.

Bottom line: Do what makes you comfortable unless your doctor tells you otherwise. I drive back and forth to Brooklyn on the JRP everyday. I can guarantee that that act alone is 100 times more dangerous to my unborn child than listening to music on my belly.

unless you are playing it at top volume, i can't imagine what could be dangerous about playing music for your baby. women have been doing it for years. i tried it once but Chat Icon was asleep so i don't know if he enjoyed it. i know he does like to rock out to rhianna in the car with me, though. he is also a fan of flo rider.

Re: is it safe to play music to your unborn child with headphones?

I'll share what I know of them: my sister was a huge advocate, and used them quite a bit with my nephew. With no risk factors present, he was born six weeks early.

I know all about music exposure and intelligence. We naturally tend to play a lot of music in our home - live piano as well as cd's - and that is the extent to which we are exposing the baby.

My friend did it all the time. Mostly classical music with her first and he came out needing CONSTANT attention and stimulation, like 24/7. She did not do it with her second and she is such a content baby.

I will not be playing music for Chat Icon

I played classical music every night for my DS and he was the most content baby ever! He never needed my constant attention. And he LOVES music and "dancing" to music now. Chat Icon

I was going to say that I know women who are mothers of more than one child who did not play music for their babies while in utero - my own mother included. She used to telll me how each pregnancy was different from the one before (she had 5 total pregnancies). She mentioned that my brother was calm as anything and one of my sisters used to bruise her from the inside - she is now an attorney - go figure.

There are behavioral, as well as emotional and physical (including fine motor and gross motor) differences between children regardless of what you do or do not expose them to when pregnant. Sometimes, there are no explanations for why things are the way they are. Still answers are always sought. Im just having a hard time believing that music exposure is something for me to worry about. Though we are all entitled to our opinions - makes the world go round.
