Is it time for potty training??

Julia has been coming to me lately pulling at her diaper saying "mama go", then she runs into my bedroom and gets a diaper for me, she just started doing this for like a week now. She will be 17 months on the 7th.

So do I start putting her on the potty (once we get one) or is it too soon and I should wait? Chat Icon

Re: Is it time for potty training??

Jack is a month older and hates going in his diaper. He actually freaks out for a few minutes and holds it and then pees. I heard that the window is prior to 2 or over 3 for toddlers so we are really tempted to start.

BUT, I'm flying to visit my parents next week and then when Dh gets home after the holidays we want to take a a trip to WDW we aren't ready just yet for the inconvience of potty training during either of those two times so we are waiting a bit. I hope down the line it doesn't bite me in the arse.

It sounds like she would like to start. My son started last month. He is 19 months.

She is definitely giving you signs. If you have the time start her. My nephew was ready and let everyone know it!

Really? Oh god I pray for this!!

Mel-It does sound like Julia is giving you signs. I am trying to teach Miranda to give them to me because I want to be done with diapers.

I think since she is eager to let you know, that is a good sign to start! You are very lucky that she is letting you know before, not after she has gone Chat Icon . I only hope it is this easy for me when the time comes.
As an aside, I was completely potty trained by the time I was 18 months (with the photos to prove it Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon ).

I owuld show her a potty seat and let her make the decision. Kevin started showing signs like that pointing whenever her had to go around the same age - maybe 18 mos - but had no interest in actually going on the bowl unfortunately. he does like to sit on the real bowl with insert seat but he hasn't gone yet and he doesn't do it when he points. I just leave the seat around and let him try it when he wants.

I think thats what I'm going to do, just buy a potty seat and see if she wants to use it. Hopefully she will start in the next few months!

I'm also going to buy the potty training DVD (the one with the little girl on the front) see how that goes too.

Thanks everyone for your responces!
