It's going to happen in A LOT of districts, this year and most by next year.
K is not state mandated, at all.
A 2% tax cap (taking reserves into account) results in widespread cuts.
The district I work in is on contingency this year, so a 2% tax cap on contingency... programs are being gutted

Its in the Budget that was past by the BOE yesterday. It will be voted on May 15th by the public.

Yes. The proposal is for 2.5 hours of kindergarten per day. Morning sessions only with possibly some sort of "day care" (not enrichment) offered at the parents' expense thereafter. They also plan on dropping all middle school sports.

Would this be happening in other districts? Is there a way to find out now? We are in plainview, half day would really be an inconvenience

Just to update this thread the Teachers union agreed upon a 3 year pay plan that saved enough money to allow full day kindergarten again. It also allowed for middle school sports and some other things. Just figured Id update all that had heard about all this a few weeks ago. If your in the School District PLEASE get out and vote Tues to pass the budget. The State mandated cuts if the budget fails is ridiculous! We need to pass! Vote Yes!
