Is it weird to not make a ham/roast for Christmas?- edited with question
I think we usually do a ham or beef tenderloin for Christmas with sides (potato/veggie etc) and a pasta appetizer. I am hosting this year and kind of feel like the ham/sides are not too special. Was thinking of doing more of like a big italian meal. We are meat eaters but inlaws are vegetarian. I am thinking:
-rigatoni ala vodka (no meat)
-meatballs & sausage
-eggplant parm
-chicken parm
-stromboli with pepperoni, salami, soppressata, provolone and mozzarella
flatbread/pizza squares with spinach and broccoli
escarole and beans
salad
Please share your thoughts/ideas. TIA!
OK, been thinking. My dad really likes sausage so I was going to just put it in sauce with meatballs but now thinking. Should I do that OR make a tray of sausage and peppers OR make it with broccoli rabe and garlic/oil?

I think it sounds great. You have the meat sides (sausage and meatballs), plus chicken parm. You should be good.

Re: Is it weird to not make a ham/roast for Christmas?
That sounds delicious! My mom always makes either lasagna or stuffed shells on Christmas. She also makes a ham, which I always find odd because I don't particularly think those 2 things go together I would prefer it if she went all Italian on Christmas.
Then again, I host Christmas Day and my menu is a mixture as well...I do a turkey with all the fixings and then linguini with clams.

Not weird at all. We're having similar stuff as you and it's fine.

Sounds amazing to me!
I get bored of ham too. I usually do ham for christmas eve bc ILs serve turkey for christmas. This year I wanted something really easy since I have a newborn so we're having lasagna. Definitely not traditional for our Irish families but I was able to make and freeze it already so convenience won this year. We'll just have salad and garlic bread on the side. I'm sure if anyone isn't thrilled with my choice they won't let on to me at least!

Make what you like!
I make duck every year. Sometimes, someone will bring a ham/roast, but this year, we're all duck eaters...so no need.

My in laws always had ham on Christmas. Growing up, we always had either lasagna w meatballs & sausage alternating w shrimp scampi. What you have sounds perfect. I'm greek & Italian so we aren't picky. Lol

Funny, I'm greek and italian as well. Was originally actually going to do pastitsio, spanakopita, greek salad etc. but inlaws don't eat meat and it would just be annoying lol. Thank everyone, I'm sticking with this menu!

Re: Is it weird to not make a ham/roast for Christmas?
That is similar to what my mom makes for Christmas & Easter.
We have no vegetarians at the moment, so we do have a little more meat.
I think this year it is stuffed shells, chicken parm, meatballs, possibly braciole, salad, roasted cauliflower or sauteed broccoli (or maybe both)
Sometimes there is eggplant.
