Is it worth it to pay for an Elmo to come to DD's first birthday?
She loves Elmo, but the oldest kid who's going to be there is 3...the rest are around a year old or younger. I'm wondering if it's worth it to have Elmo come or will he scare the kids? Any other suggestions as to good things to get for a 1st birthday? It's going to be in June, so we might be bbq'ing. TIA!

Yes! I thought it was great! What does Elmo usually "do" to entertain the kids since they are going to be so young?

He is there normally just to show up. waves and take pics...at least that is what mine is doing.
Gianna loves him so even if it brought a smile to her face and not a scream or cry ... ..worth it for me.
You and I should share..we are both doing Elmo themes

Re: Is it worth it to pay for an Elmo to come to DD's first birthday?
For me, I personally would not get it.
I went to a 1st bday party where they had Elmo...some of the little kids were scared including the birthday girl..she would not go near him! I just thought it was a waste in that situation and I would do something like that when the child was old enough to appreciate it. JMHO!
I guess it makes sense..these kids are used to seeing elmo on TV or elmo dolls..not a 6 foot elmo, you know?

Yeah, I would skip it for a 1st birthday party. Possibly for two or three, but one year olds can be scared of stuff like this, even if she likes Elmo on TV.
I would just get lots of Elmo favors and a cake, plus a doll if she doesn't have one.

I feel the same way. I'd save the money if it were me.

I wouldn't do it either...too many young kids are afraid. For my sons 1st b-day we had it in a park, hired the ice cream man to come and face painters. Plus I had water toys (his b-day is in July) and play dough and stuff for the kids to do, but we had kids of all ages.

I wouldn't do it -- wait till he is older and can actually have a great memory of it

I thought it was worth it. The oldest kid I had at the party was 3.5. Elmo took photos & danced with the kids. A clown was included in the package. They did balloons face painting & tatoos.

I didn't do a character, but did a puppet show that had sesame street characters. It was cute and I'm glad I did it because none of the kids were scared by it since he wasn't a huge furry "monster" . Even the older kids enjoyed it.

My DDs 1st b-day is this coming weekend and Elmo is coming. She loves him also. I know its not exactly the same but we went to Sesame Street Live and she enjoyed the show so much. I really hope she likes him at her party.

Re: Is it worth it to pay for an Elmo to come to DD's first birthday?
I had Elmo come to DD's first birthday and OMG she LOVED it. I know she's only 1 and won't remember, but the girl NEVER left his side. Nobody else existed for the hour he was there. It was weird, the older kids seemed to shy away more than the babies. We didn't have anyone scared or cry.
Honestly I've seen DD "interact" with Elmo's before and it's just the most wonderful thing to watch her light up in pure joy. For me, that alone, made it worth every penny!!!!
