Re: is my idea too strange
I think it could be cute....but like others said, is this an outdoor party? Cause august just screams heat, & I don't k ow how you would get anything from not melting.

Re: is my idea too strange
Well think about it - who are you inviting? Its not like you are going to invite Joan Rivers who is going to critique your theme and dress you are inviting close family and friends who just want to celebrate a birthday with you and your family! Go for it!

I think it's cute. You could make an igloo out of empty milk cartons. You'll just have to get creative with different materials, that's all. Lots of winter white desserts!

Re: is my idea too strange
instead of a real igloo that you can GO into. . . you can get a huge piece of posterboard and make an igloo out of blocks orsomething similar - and then take pictures in front of it!!

You could build that and just paint the caps to the colors of the party!

Re: is my idea too strange
I think it's a cute idea if that's your thing. I like the idea of winter "one"derland. As far as theme not being for them, well , they're 1, they don't really know what they like yet, haha. I think it's cute, if it were me, I'd do what I wanted, as long it's fun for the babies, who cares.

The weather outsides delightful This winter was barely frightful Our first year is about to go So lets make it snow, make it snow, make it snow
I clearly have too much time on my hands. Lol. Sing that to baby it's cold outside. It is a little strange to do winter in Aug but you can make it work. I wouldnt call it winter onederland though. Just use the theme make it crazy and it will work.
love it!!

I think it would be cute. If it is what you love and you want to share it with your children, then go for it. We don't get to live this life twice. Enjoy it and don't care what others think!

Re: is my idea too strange
I think it's a great idea! Why not?
Posted by Otherme I think i would wonder why you were doing this for the kids party though. Seems like instead of doing a theme that was for them, this is more for you.
And I think this is silly... every little detail of any 1st bday party is for the parents...!

totally NOT true
DD communicated her love of giraffes to me by chewing on her giraffe teether every day. . . I interpreted that into a sophisticated yet gender appropriate birthday theme of "girly giraffe"

Re: is my idea too strange
I don't think it's weird and forced. It's a nice birthday theme that's unique for the season. I personally find candy buffets, tutus and personalized shirts for birthdays as forced, trying too hard to impress, and more for show than anything else. People post more pics of their theme and candy buffets than the kid having fun, which makes me wonder. I say do what you want.

Re: is my idea too strange
I think it's different but if that's who you are, go for it.
You could have snow cones to eat in the heat. The best of winter and summer.
You could get styrofoam blocks and make an igloo, might be pricey tho.
Maybe you can stock up on some fake "carpet" snow they use for the little villages now that Xmas is over.
I think there are so many creative ideas in this theme. Have fun!

That's your opinion, and i stated mine since the op asked for opinions i've just never been into themed bday parties for babies anyway, so to ME, it would be forced.
But if the OP wants winter wonderland in August, go for it! the opinions of a bunch of random people online shouldn't matter

Re: is my idea too strange
we went here in disney a few years back...thought it was very crafty to have a water park with a winter theme:
After a freak snow storm blanketed Florida in white, a ski resort sprang up with slalom courses, toboggan slides and iceberg walkways. When the weather shifted back to hot, the whole resort started to melt. What to do?
