Is one nap for one hour a day enough?

for an active 16 month old???? Naps stress me out to no end. I need her to rest and I need to rest.

All week she napped for only 50 minutes: 10am - almost 11 (at home and at daycare.) She sleeps about 10 - 10 1/2 hours at night 8:00/8:30 - 6:30am. 11 hours total sleep doesn't sound like enough to me.

She's been sitting in her crib for an hour now playing, but not sleeping. She's so cranky by the end of the day it kills me. I can't put her to bed earlier because on the days I work by the time we get home play a little, eat, bathe, etc it's 7:30. Then we read a few books and she's in the crib no later than 8.

Why can't she just nap like all her little friends doChat Icon

My DD takes like 3 hour naps during the day! Chat Icon Chat Icon She also sleeps about 10.5-11 hours at night.

Honestly, some kids need more sleep than others. My kids still need naps every day or they are just horrible little creatures.

Is she ok, temperment wise? That would give you clues. If she seems fine other wise, maybe that's all she needs!

I agree word-for-word with this.

My nephew doesn't sleep AT ALL. He takes a 2 hour nap, goes to bed at around 9:30-10, sometimes later! Chat Icon and is up before 6.

I'm soooo jealous!! I'm a napper. I never slept well at night and I need to nap (esp preggo) and my DH is the total opposite. Obviously she takes after himChat Icon

She gets cranky and cries easier when she only naps once in the morning. I've tried pushing her up later in the day, but honestly for some reason by 10am she's done and needs to go to sleep. Even this afternoon, she threw her cup into the crib and put her hands up. I was so excited thinking "yay nap time" but nope she's not sleeping.

Dinner and bath are bit difficult because she's cranky. They used to be fun timesChat Icon

Guess I don't know how much sleep they are supposed to get at that age. If she doesn't seem overly cranky, then I guess it is enough for her.

Maybe try putting her down for her nap a little bit later? Marron also sleeps for 10-10.5 hours at night and will take about a 3 hour nap in the afternoon, but only if it is 5 or more hours from when she woke up. If it is less, she naps less.

Could it be a phase? Unfortunately, when I was pregnant with #2, my DD took like one 40 minute nap per day, and I was working, and I was expecting 2 under 2 so I KNOW how you feel! Oh yeah, and I'm a HUUUUGE napper (well, I was Chat Icon) too, so I was wondering what was going on!! Chat Icon

I don't know how it all worked itself out, but eventually her naps lengthened and now, at 2.5, she takes one 90 minute nap per day.

DD took one nap a day at that age...but for closer to 2 or 2.5 hrs. I think 1 hr a day is very little for her age.

Same here...or at least it was....she doesn't want to nap for the last two days! Chat Icon
