Re: Is or did anyone throw a
I did and I used the luai theme.
Happens to be that his b-day is in July so it helped but I had everyone come in Hawaiian shirts/outfits.
I dont think I was that creative.
I also saw this which I thought was cute...the invite was a baby pictureof bday girl/guy and the saying, "Looks who turning 30"
ETA: Im turning 30 in June...hope I get a party!

I am- I am surprising him next month witha cruise to the western caribbean. After he gets over the initial shock of being on a trip he had no clue of...he will get an additional shock the first night of dinner...we will "accidently" be late so when he walks to the table it will already be filled with friends and family!

Re: Is or did anyone throw a
We threw a surprise 40th for my sister.
She always wanted a summer birthday (hers is in November) so the theme was Kat's Summer Birthday.
We had deep blue table clothes, clear bowls with shells & floating candles, painted a giant sign with the body in a bikini, tatoo, high heels & rhinestones & her face on it.
Beach balls, giant sun glasses, etc.
Favors were a CD of 70's music.
We did a survey version of the Newlywed game that people could fill out. Husbands & wives filled theirs out separately (questions like "what is the one thing you admire most about your husband/wife?", etc.)
Had a mini radio flyer wagon filled with candy from her childhood (pixie sticks, candy cigarettes, charleston chews, etc.)

Re: Is or did anyone throw a
My DH threw me a great Surprise 30th. A great idea he had was for the invitation - he got pictures of me from my mom from every year of my life (Age 1 through Age 29) - most taken on my birthday too. Then he had our friend design a invite that looked like calendar with each picture being a day. Day 1 - Age 1 picture etc. It was really cute and everyone got a kick out of it. Although seeing the progression through the awkward early teen years is a little hard
He then had everyone at our house when we got back from a day at the wineries and outlets. He was lucky and had our families there all day to set it all up after we left.
I was trully shocked!

I threw him a family dinner (both sides) at a nice restaurant on the water in the summer. I also took him to San Diego - surprised him with the trip and told him where we were going the night of his party (2 weeks before the trip).

Re: Is or did anyone throw a
I didn't but my SIL threw one for my brother. There was no real theme and since it coincided with my wedding planning, we were able to get him into the party room by telling him that we wanted his and SIL's opinion on this space because we were thinking about using it for the RD.

I threw a surprise b-day party for my sister -- Key West theme. Everyone was handed a Margarita when they walked in. I got decorations and ideas from a web site LIKE Oriental Trading but it was ...Parties SOmething-or-other, can't remember... I made coconut shrimp, and pulled pork sandwiches, and conch fritters...everyone wore sun glasses and beach attire (in November). It was a huge success...!

he hates surprises, but he already started asking me if i started planning his Surprise party yet Im trying to think of something creative, but then i was thinking about just having something at a bar with his friends, and then surprising him with a little trip (like vegas or something)

Re: Is or did anyone throw a
I threw a 31st bday for my dh and brother (bday's are one day apart) We didn't have a theme though and after I started planning they decided they wanted to throw themselves a party so I had to let them know one was already in the works.
We had it at this really cool place in the city. The place is named Villa. It's 2 floors and completely yours all night. A guy at the door with your guestlist, open bar and we brought in our own DJ. It also has an outside area with stairs going from upstairs to down stairs patio. The place was great and reasonably priced. We had about 60 people.

That's fantastic! Did you pay for any family to go, or just for you and DH?

I threw DH a surprise 30th.....it was Memorial Day weekend, which was just so appropriate! We always camped with the same group of friends for Memorial Day weekend for like more then 15 years. This was the 1st year no one was going (due to pregnancies, babies, new houses ect.) so it was awesome that EVRYONE was able to be there that weekend! No real theme, just a lot of fun & good friends in the backyard!

A few of us chipped in for some family to go since they are hard on cash but mostly everyone wanted to pay for themselves.
