Is pregnancy a pre-existing condition?

I was thinking of switching over to my DH's coverage. We both have BC/BS (mine is of Mass. his is of NY) - I was wondering if anyone knew for sure if pregnancy was considered a pre-existing condition, and not covered if you lose or switch plans.

Thanks!

Re: Is pregnancy a pre-existing condition?

I was told it wasn't when I switched my insurance (I was three months PG when I did)

I went from UHC to Aetna...

I don't think they are allowed to pull coverage for PG. I would ask the administrator/HR person if you can.

Re: Is pregnancy a pre-existing condition?

Most people I talked to insisted it was when I was pregnant with DS. We made the switch anyway and never had any issues. I switched from my own insurance (Aetna) to DH's (Cigna).

Re: Is pregnancy a pre-existing condition?

We made the switch from my BCBS to cobra to DH's BCBS. Not pre-exisiting, but much easier to make the switch if you have had nonstop coverage. So my advice would be do not let time lapse between ending yours and starting on his.

I believe as long as you were covered by another insurance it is fine.

I believe they cannot say that pregnancy is a pre-existing condition. I think it is the only exception.

DH looked it up for me b/c I was worried since my insurance doesn't kick in for a couple months...pregnancy is exempt from ALL pre-existing conditions rules.
