Is swaddling bad for naps?
I read that it's not good to swaddle for naps on the other thread (Miracle Blanket). DD will NOT sleep on her back unless she's swaddled.
Another question for BTDT swaddling moms: How did you *break* the swaddling addiction once your DC was too old to swaddle? Will it happen naturally?

Re: Is swaddling bad for naps?
I hope not, because we swaddle for naps where we want to put her down to sleep in her crib...if she falls asleep on us unswaddled, she'll stay asleep, but otherwise, she won't stay asleep for a nap if she's not swaddled.
On the Miracle Blanket packaging it says "for proper development...do not swaddle for more than 10 hours in a 24-hour period. Do not swaddle for more than 8 hours in a row". So I'm safe, as DD doesn't sleep nearly that much on her own.

same here - we always swaddled DD for naps - she slept comfortably that way. And it happened over night - she wa sjust getting too big to swaddle and so we didnt and she slept fine - - but the time they are too big to be swaddled, they outgrow the need to be swaddled. HTH

We used it just at night.
For us the transition happened naturally. One night around 4.5 months she fussed after we put it on and was happy as soon as we took it off. That was it.

Same exact thing for us!

My DD is the same exact way! I can't see why it would be bad.

I'm in trouble with this one She's definitely in it close to 8 hours a night. She'll go down at 10-12 in it and sleep through til about 6-7. And being that she'll nap a good stretch in it during the day...
Oh, god... am I doing her harm

Re: Is swaddling bad for naps?
I definitely think you're okay!! I just went to the Miracle Blanket website and there was no mention of that. I'm sure it says it on the product, but it's probably just a disclaimer of sorts. Don't worry about it - as long as she's sleeping well I wouldn't worry about it.
Oh yeah, I also googled "swaddling" to see if there were any such warnings, and nothing obvious popped up. If it was a major concern, I'm sure it would be well known.

Oh thank you!!! I'm reading these posts as she's been happily swaddled, sleeping in her swing for the last hour!!

Oh no, I didn't mean to worry you! It's just that I ordered it and just received it in the mail yesterday, and the package was by the computer! I'm sure it's fine, I'm sure it's just a disclaimer!!!!! Sorry!!!

We only swaddle DD at night so she doesn't wake herself up with her hands otherwise she sleeps from 10 to between 5 and 6am. She has been getting out of her swaddles so we bought the miracle blanket this weekend and it does have that disclaimer all over it - saying no more than 8 hours at once or 10 hours over a 24 hour period. Maybe b.c the arms are locked into a position so the baby can't move them?

Re: Is swaddling bad for naps?
I never swaddled for naps. But when she was real young she only napped in her swing. Now, she sleeps in her crib.
I broke her out of the habit of being swaddled around 5 months. Its been great since. She sleeps 10-11 hours a night.
