Marcie - We took Kobie to Smith's Point last week. If you pay to park and walk down to the camping beach (there are no lifeguards) you can have dogs there.
You can also bring him over on the ferry out of Sayville to Sailor's Haven and if you have a boat you can go to Tallisman or Barrett.

Haahaa!! Its funny you mentioned these places.
We live right near Smith's Point and we usually take her there - but we never have during the 'summer' season.
And we go to Sailors, Tallisman and Barrett all the time, but our boat isn't in the water yet  
I think we are going to take her to Smiths Point during the week - when there isn't as many people around

I also take JJ to Blydenburgh in Smithtown. It's not a beach but they have a lake and there is one part of the nature trail that leads to a bit of a beach.
We were just there today, he loves fetching his ball out of the water and swimming!

We mostly do Smith's Point cuz we are closer..and we tend to go after work when it's not as crazy.
I've also taken her to Gardiners and she loves playing on that beach with the other dogs.

Gardiners Park in Bay Shore. They can swim
in the Bay.
