Is there a reason you would NOT ever introduce cereal?
A girl I work with has a 7 month old that eats fruits, veggies and some table food but she introduced cereal and said she never will. I asked her why, since I always thought that it was good for them. She didn't answer so I didn't push it.
Any idea? Just curious.

I read that it's really not necessary and that babies can tolerate other first foods (bananas, avocado, etc.) when the time comes to start solids.

I once heard the theory that by introducing cereal first we are teaching our childrens to be carb-centric and that is why Americans have a tendency to be overweight becasue of all the bad carbs we eat. According to this theory the best things to introduce are bananas, avacaodos, etc.
Personally, I'm not that extreme. My life without pizza would not be comlete.

It's not nutritionally necessary to give them cereal at that age. I give it to DS, but I didn't start with it and I have always mixed his cereal with fruits and veggies so he gets more nutrients.

a friend of mine, her dr told her not to give her dd cereal bc it causes obesity. I assume the carb theory like stated above????
