Is there a time limit to PPD?
I thought I was out of the woods with PPD, but the last few days I have been really really down.
Like, hard time getting out of bed, let the rest of the world deal with everything, I just want to sit and cry down.
Could this still be PPD or am I past that and just in a funk?
Please don't quote, in case I want to pull this down.
Thanks.

Re: Is there a time limit to PPD?
I think PPD can affect you up to one year. Do a search, I know pncss posted a lot of info regarding PPD including some links.
Feel better

Re: Is there a time limit to PPD?
I'm not an expert but it sounds like it could be. Either way if you're feeling like that talk to your doctor.
Here's a link to a Babycenter.com article on PPD
From the article.... "Unfortunately, the medical community has misunderstood and misdiagnosed PPD for some time. PPD can strike any woman, either immediately after the birth of her baby or many months later."

Re: Is there a time limit to PPD?
Lauren- I am sorry you are feeling so down.
I didn't get better until I stopped BF to start some medication when Matty was 5 1/2 months old. I started feeling better a few weeks later and it was like a fog suddenly lifted and I felt like myself again. Around the same time I had returned to work, Matty got on a schedule and started sleeping better too. I didn't feel 100% "me" again until he was about 6 1/2 months old.
I hope things get better for you soon.
Are you getting any sleep? I always thought that the extreme sleep deprivation was a big part of it for me.

Re: Is there a time limit to PPD?
I think I experienced it at about 7 months PPD. My Dr. said it was still possible to have it that far after.

Re: Is there a time limit to PPD?
Thanks. I am sleeping. Sort of.
I have a herniated disc in my back that makes it hard to get comfortable.
And I have to have surgery on it soon, which means a full 1.5 days without being able to see Logan.
And then 3 weeks without being able to pick him up.
So I think that's contributing to things.
I'm just feeling so blah and out of the loop on things.
But when people try to help or offer to come watch the baby while I go out, I turn them down.
It's like I'm sabotaging myself and I don't know why.

Re: Is there a time limit to PPD?
No, there is no time limit to PPD.. unfortunately As someone else posted, I think PPD can hit up to 1 yr post partum ..
I had the baby blues the first few weeks.. Then it passed, and I too thought I was 'out of the woods..'
But then when Nikolas was about 3 months old I got really depressed.. it was so BAD, worse than I can even imagine right now (I had suffered from depression and anxiety in the past, but this was very different). I couldn't enjoy this baby that I wanted so much and I was just not me in any aspect. So it was then that I knew that it must be PPD or something similar..
I saw my doctor and betwen speaking to someone for a period of time and going on medication.. I was back to 'me' about a month after
I hope things are better for you soon .. I would suggest if you continue feeling this way, maybe give your OB a call

Re: Is there a time limit to PPD?
I'm so sorry. Anytime within the first year, they say that PPD can pop up. It's closely linked to hormonal changes your body goes through after giving birth. You definitely have a lot on your plate right now, so I can understand how you'd be feeling so down. Make sure you have family or friends you can talk to everyday to help ease your stress and worries. If you need anything at all, please don't hesitate to FM me.

Re: Is there a time limit to PPD?
I was diagnosed with PPD...it actually started soon after I gave birth. Having a colic baby that was awake and crying 24/7 didnt help. I would lay in bed crying my eyes out and I even had thoughts that I wanted DS to go away We hired a babysitter that came 3 times a week while I was on maternity leave so I could get some sleep during the day and go out. I also started Zoloft and I think that it has really helped.
