is there a way to take back an ebay bid?update!

i bid on two of the same items and won one...i don't want the other (but, if i have to keep it i will)....is there a way to retract my bid?Chat Icon

update:everything went well! the seller canceled my bid (although i still saw my name up on the bid list---but i also got out bid to--so i don't feel so bad asking to have it canceled now!!)

I almost had this happen to me. I lost of the auctions at the last second though. I think you can retract before the sale but, not after and I think it is kind of frowned upon. I really could be wrong since I am by no means an ebay expert.

It is frowned upon and a bid retraction stays on your ebay history for a little while.

I would only do it if it's a real expensive item and there is no chance of being outbid.

yes- send them a message thru ebay

don't worry about the email thing- but I always check off hide

just tell them you made a mistake - don't mention another item-

really? I am a pretty big seller- and while I get upset if it brings the item back to $0

I never thought it was a big deal

personally- I would rather you cancel now- rather then not pay

I am waiting on payment for 10 items now- and 1 is def a non-paying winner- I should have canceled her bid!

Re: is there a way to take back an ebay bid?

so i just sent the seller a note---i'm keeping my fingers crossed--this is what i sent
Hello.....I am brand new to ebay and currently have a bid on your item and I was wondering if you would be able to cancel it. Since, I am new I am trying to get used to the ins and outs of ebay!!---I asked around from people who frequently use ebay what was the best way to cancel a bid and they told me to contact the seller directly to see if they will do it or not..They told me they would rather have someone ask to cancel sooner than later and not have to wait for a payment, etc.& their experience as a buyer was that they asked and had success canceling a bid....so I figured I'd just try and ask..If this is a problem, don't worry about it---I will learn from my mistake but, if you could do it I would really appreciate it!! Sorry for the inconvenience! :)

i hope it works---thanks again everyone!! and i will let u know what the result is!

Re: is there a way to take back an ebay bid?

If its not an super-expensive item why not just purchase it, then re-sell it back on ebay. This way you don't have to worry about re-tracting or cancelling bids. And your feedback won't be negatively affected. Plus you get the experience of selling an item. Just a thought.

buyers can't get negetive feedback anymore

sellers can only leave positive feedback
