Is there an inexpensive way to do a shower?
My mom doesn't really have the means, but she wants to do something and would never complain. I just feel soooo guilty because I know she really wants to do something, but I know she doesn't have it and won't admit it.
I can't do it in LI because I live in Putnam and my DH's family is upstate so I have to do it in Lower Westchester so its in the middle. SO having it at a house probably isn't an option. My DH offered to help pay, but I'm not sure if she'd ever take it from us.
Any suggestions would be appreciated?
Jen (missrock) if you are reading this I beg you not to say anything to your mom or dad my mom would be HORRIFIED and angry if she knew I posted this.
Thanks!!!

What about a room in a pizzeria or a brunch with no drinks included?

You could do a small coffee & cake reception one night so you aren't obligated to an entire meal.

What about a brunch buffet they are usually inexpensive and everyone loves them. Or a vfw type place where you can cater in your own food or your mom can make some of the dishes.

Re: Is there an inexpensive way to do a shower?
We had my sister's bridal shower at the Chinese Buffet...I think it was $9.95/pp for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The point is for everyone to celebrate the occassion...not what kind of fancy food or drinks they will have. Everyone had a nice time (and there were 2 other parties going on at the same time, so it must be a popular option and the one right next to us was a baby shower).
ETA: The only we brought was our own cake.

I was going to suggest a Chinese Buffet as well.
You can get a large reasonably priced sheet cake from Costco or BJs.

Chinesse Buffets are inexpensive.. what about just having a few ppl and do a brunch?
Have DH show up at the end and maybe give the tip or something to the waitress ( to make things easier for your mom)

Re: Is there an inexpensive way to do a shower?
I see a lot of parties at the Hometown buffet or Country Buffet
They do breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays, so that might make it a little cheaper too.

Re: Is there an inexpensive way to do a shower?
Would your DH's family be willing to travel? Mine is at my sisters house and DH's family is coming down from Boston.
I like the idea of an evening Cake and Coffee shower or afternoon shower with finger sandwiches.

Re: Is there an inexpensive way to do a shower?
You could do a brunch (bagels/donuts/coffee/juice) in a backyard or in someone's house.
This was actually my preference of shower type.

the bagel idea made me think of Bens. I wouldnt think of bens as being expensive for a sunday brunch. Also the chinese buffets a good idea.

I was going to suggest the chinese buffet also - it is only about $10 per person.

Re: Is there an inexpensive way to do a shower?
Chinese... I just booked my sisters shower and it was so cheap per head. I was willing to pay up to 20.00 a head, but got it for 10.00 a person. HTH

Re: Is there an inexpensive way to do a shower?
OHHH I like the bagel brunch idea! I was thinking a VFW or Hibernian Hall or something. I know the Hibernian Hall near us only charges like 200 to rent out the hall and then you can bring in your own catering or use theirs. Beer and Wine is $3 a person too which is so cheap for a catering place!
