Is there any kind of train museum on LI?
DS loves trains and I was wondering if we had anything like that around here.

There is the Long Island Steamers in Yaphank. It's not a museum, but your son could ride on the train around the park.
There is also the Wrong Island Railroad, I think it's in Ronkonkoma. They have mini electric trains set up.

I forgot about the place in Yaphank. I remember going there when I was younger.

There's a very small one on Wantagh Ave that's open Sundays 2-4 in the summer. It's got an old train car to walk through and the old station that has some exhibits.

Its not geared towards kids though.......
RAILROAD MUSEUM of Long Island 440 4th Street, Greenport 631-477-0439 On display are various railroad artifacts, including an old steam locomotive of the 1930's.
The Long Island Museum 1208 Route 25A Stony Brook, NY 11790 (631) 751-0066 This museum has mostly carriages
ETA: I got these off on this website- I have been to the LI Museum, not the other Museums
