Is there any Pro's for working off the books?

My girlfriend found a job but it is off the books. She is not sure if she should take it as it is more money per week but no taxes are taken out of her paycheck.

Is there any pro's for working this way?

Yes the main Pro is that you won't be paying taxes.

It's the reason why Obama's 95% of Americans will be getting a tax break is false.

40% percent of Americans do not pay income tax.

Well, if she gets caught the repayment penalty can hurt. I used to work in the restaurant business and I filed myself as an independent contractor & paid my own taxes. Others that I worked with did not and some had to pay upwards of $75K in back taxes.

Depending on the kind of business, it may not be worth it. Plus if she is OTB, if she gets hurt at work, she would not be covered by disability either...

It can be ok, but it is a lot to think about.

If you get hurt on the job, your health insurance does not have to cover you because Workers' Comp. is supposed to cover all medical bills for work related injuries. If you are off the books, you have no coverage for on the job injuries. You will have to fight it out with your employer and if the employer has no money to cover you, you are stuck with an injury and no coverage to treat it.

Thanks everyone :)
I will let her know the responses. I think she was leaning towards taking the job because she would be able to put more money in savings so if something did happen to her or the job, she would have back up.
