Is there anyone that did not/ does not plan on a hospital tour?

I have really procrastinated with this because it just was making me nervous. I am 36 weeks and have not yet visited and am pretty sure if I call that I will not be able to get in for one before the baby is born. I am just curious if there is anyone that did not do this or does not plan on it? I think am now regretting that I put this off . . .

We just did our hospital tour on friday and I actually recommend that you do it. We'd never been to our hospital so it was nice to actually see it and know where to go/what to do when I do go into labor. We also had a bunch of questions answered by the nurse that took us around, etc. and got our pre-registration form in so they already have all my info for when I get there.

I would call your hospital today, let them know how soon you are due, they will probably be able to get you in. This is our first baby and we're taking the tour. I'd like the be familiar with the hospital before going in to deliver.

Our hospital didn't offer tours. They had an orientation where they gave a whole lot of information and you could ask questions.

I don't think it's really necessary, as long as you know where to go when you are in labor. Once you are checked in, they are going to take care of you and move you around, so I don't think it matters that much if you've seen it before or not.

I did a hospital orientation but no tour. I'm 37 weeks and never scheduled it. I felt like the orientation gave me enough info that I'm ok with not having done the tour. If I had to do it over again I probably would have scheduled it, but I'm not too stressed about not having done it.

I'm not doing it because I've been on bedrest and am pretty sure he's going to come shortly after I am released from bedrest.

I am almost 39 w and totally ran out of time to do the hospital tour. I wish I had done it but I did do a class which was kind of a step by step on what to expect when you arrive. I regret that I didn;t get to actually go on the tour though. I would call now and ask if you can do one since you are due very soon.

I am not doing one b/c I am a nurse and work in a hospital. I have been to a few different L&D floors so I dont feel like I need a tour and my DH doesnt care either way.

My brother and SIL who dont have any experience with hospitals did the tour and were glad that they did. They felt less anxious the day she gave birth b/c they were somewhat familiar with things. If its not too late, you should do what a PP suggested, call the hospital and tell them how far along you are so they can maybe squeeze you into an upcoming tour.

I would recommend it if you can squeeze it in because it really helped me to visualize where I would be and where everything was….I am a big visual learner / observer and it helped to calm some of my nerves..the nurse showed us the delivery room and the equipment, the recovery room and the nursery..it was very helpful. Just make sure you know where you are supposed to go....you DO NOT want to be wandering around the hospital in labor Chat Icon

Plus, St Cats for instance, the main entrance closes after a certain hour and you have to go around through the emergency room, which was good to know. You may want to double checks things like that and where admissions is.

I arrived after hours and had to go through the ER. Thank god I knew that bc Id be ****** if I went all the way to the front door only to not be able to get in, have to go back in the car, find parking again, and then go into the emergency room.

Re: Is there anyone that did not/ does not plan on a hospital tour?

I didn't sign up early enough so I didn't have a hospital tour. It was fine - there was one other person on here who delivered her DC in that same hospital and she gave me very detailed information so I knew where to go.

I would recommend taking a drive with your DH to the hospital and just figure out where the maternity ward is on your own so you know where you need to park, etc.

The first time DH and I drove to the hospital we were 4 blocks away from the maternity ward actually was. I'm soooo happy we figured that out before I was in labor! Chat Icon

I didnt with Noah, but I was admitted 2 times previously so I knew the rooms, but I dont think I would have anyway, you really dont care what it looks like when your in labor.
