Is there anything I can do about chest congestion??
My DD is 15 months, and has a pretty awful chest cold We took her to the Dr. on Monday because she had had croup about 3 months ago, and that awful, hacking cough was coming back.
Now when she wakes up in the morning, she has such severe congestion that she's seconds from throwing up whenever she coughs. As it is, after her nap yesterday, I caught her vomit in my hand
Is there anything I can give her? I know she's too young for Mucinex, right? I'm just wondering if there's ANYTHING out there that can help clear this up.
Thanks

can you take a break from dairy for the day?
also, cup your hand and hit her ribs to break things up

I sit with DD in the steam in the bathroom for a good 15-20 minutes to loosen things up...also not sure if your ped allows honey yet, but I gave Chels some tea with honey when she had a chesty cough, and it soothed her

like the pp mentioned J&J vapor bath. Also vicks has a baby vapor rub you can put on the baby's chest and back.

Re: Is there anything I can do about chest congestion??
Thanks for the suggestions!
We've been taking her into the steamy bathroom a few times a day. She seems better for about 5 minutes and then the congestion is back in full force again I will try the honey.
I tried taking a break from milk today, but then she saw me pouring milk in my cereal and she got VERY upset
We've been using the humidifier at night and for her naps.
I know I probably just need to let it run its course, but I just wish there were something I could do to make her feel better

I assume you've already elevated her mattress? That does help, with the humidifier, Vicks on the feet & chest, and the steam from bathrooms.
But DD had some the other week that nothing helped....I feel your pain

Maybe try soymilk in the meantime?
Humidifier was always good. Not sure what your ped's recommendation is but what about Vicks on her chest?

I do this as well. I also put baby Vicks on his chest, which seems to help. In terms of milk, what about watering it down? DS is a milk fiend and is happy as long as he has some milk- he's oblivious to the fact that it's much thinner.

Re: Is there anything I can do about chest congestion??
Try sitting in the bathroom with a hot, steamy shower going.
Also- a cool mist humidifier.
And not sure why- but rub vicks baby rub on their feet and put feety PJs on- works like a charm!

My MIL told me to do this, too, and OMG it works! DS loves it so much he sometimes goes to the bathroom and brings me the Vicks and says, "I want this."

Re: Is there anything I can do about chest congestion??
My PED has us to back compressions, cup your hand and hit the upper back (harder than burping) you will hear a hollow sound when you are doing it right. She had us to it for about 5 minutes after nebulizer treatments. I would do it after you take her into the steamy bathroom.

Baby vicks, humidifier, steam the bathroom, saline solution to clear the nasal passages.
