Is there anything I can do to stop this?

Noah's new obsession is crawling onto the kitchen table and it scares the crap out of me!

Is there any way I can deter him?

I cannot move all the chairs. Their are 4 chairs and a long bench and theres no place for them?

I raise my voice and am sooo stern and he just looks at me and does it again.

Yesterday I chased him literally 20-25 times in a row to stop doing it. I couldnt even go pee without taking him with me.

am I mising something I could be doing?

Thanks!

I turned mine upside down- nothing to climb on then and no more room is being taken up.

Tried this, he pulled them down on his head. They are very high backed chairs so the back of the chair hangs really low.

Our kitchen/ living room is a great room...no seperate rooms...Theres not a gate big enough to close it off, if it were possible.

Can you bungee-cord the chairs together, or to the table legs, etc. That way, he can't pull them out?

DD pulls the chairs out and stands on the chairs, but she doesn't go on the table. She's just looking for Parmesan cheese, or something to snack on... Chat Icon Chat Icon

try picking him up off the table and putting him down elsewhere without saying anything.

He might just be doing it for your reaction. If you don't react the fun might be taken out of it for him.

I don't know if a timeout would work at this age - when Alex was around a year old, I would just pick her up, say NO sternly, and move her to a new location, and would repeat doing that, without TOO much of a reaction.

I saw this retractable gate from One Step Ahead that they can't climb or pull onto them. Maybe try that?

I try this with DD but she just laughs and runs right back to whatever it is points at what she did and shakes her head no - then giggles and touches it or does it again.

Did you have this issue?

Yes. And as soon as she would do it again, I'd walk right over, pick her up, say NO sternly as I'm looking straight in her eyes and bring her back to a different location. You do it enough times and it gets frustrating to them, and hopefully they will stop

I have exactly the same issue down to this reply...

I've found Abby at least twice STANDING on the kitchen table...and we have ceramic tile floors, so you can imagine...

I was fortunate to be able to gate off the kitchen, but that's the only thing that would have worked. I've done the stern "NO!" thing and removed her...yeah, no! She thinks it's funny and goes running right back...whether it be to the kitchen table or running for the street! Chat Icon That tactic totally worked with Kate, so I thought for sure I had the answer. It's funny how each kid is so different! It sure is a CHALLENGE to discipline my little one--and I consider myself pretty decent with the discipline.

At this point, I just muddle through and know that each day (with my continued vigilance and discipline, of course) gets a bit better, even though I don't see the results day to day necessarily!

Hang in...I'm right there with you guys!!! Chat Icon
