Re: is this a new thing?
I used to love airplane food. I was little when I traveled so I thought it was great! Ahh...the age of innocence

Re: is this a new thing?
Yeah, I saw that on our itinerary when we went away. And we flew British Air, which had that labor dispute with the Gate Gourmet workers. On our flight back (the dispute happened while we were in Ireland so we weren't affected on the way there) we had bagged dinners! Which was ok, because I don't know how I would have felt about eating food prepared by a bunch of disgruntled catering employees!

Re: is this a new thing?
I just took American Airlines to Miami for my cruise and they had "food for purchase". Which means they have a "snack box" that consisted of stuff I hated, for about $3. Some people got pretzels, but we didn't. I don't know if they ran out or what.
Buy a sandwich before you go.

Re: is this a new thing?
Yup, unless you're sitting in first class. When DH and I went on our honeymoon, we flew AA and sat in the row right behind first class. We had the most terrible experience with them. They first cancelled our flight and then detoured us like 4 times before we got to our honeymoon destination. After all the delays we went through, they didn't even give us a crumb of food, they only gave us a $20.00 voucher for dinner for both of us. Come on, who eats dinner for $20.00 for 2 people. The cheapest thing on the menu was $15.00 I think Jet blue gives you food though.

Jet Blue does not give you food. They only give you beverages and a snack (crackers, etc.).

Re: is this a new thing?
Must be a new thing because when I went on my HM about 2 months ago we got a meal. I remember when I was little getting a souvenir like a hat or a deck of cards.

I remember flying REAL old school when you got the pilots wings if you were little.
Yeah, pack a meal... just another reason why I loved flying Jet Blue... and you can get seconds, thirds...

Re: is this a new thing?
America West does this. It was like $7 for a sandwich and $2 for a snack. Pretty pricey but good size portion.

then they should lower the cost of the plane ticket. The food is HORRIOBLE on the planes anyway.

Re: is this a new thing?
Last month, we flew Delta to Italy (8-9 hours) and we got two meals, and they came around with pretzels and peanuts twice.
Dinner was choice of chicken or steak, with a salad, some veggies, a roll, and a brownie for dessert. About an hour before landing, they came around with a breakfast meal for everyone too - it was a choice of a croissant or bagel, with butter, cream cheese, jelly, your choice of a boxed cereal, OJ, and a banana.
We had the cheapest seats on the plane, so I was pretty impressed. It was a Delta/Alitalia/AeroMexico code share flight.
