Is this even possible? (Kitchen Cabinet question)

So, our cabinets are older than dirt in our kitchen. They're in great shape, however, we just bought a dishwasher and cannot install it because the cabinets are all one solid structure. We really hate these damn cabinets, and we're looking to replace them for as cheap as possible just to last us a few years until we do a complete kitchen overhaul. So, I measured and priced out the Home Depot cabinets that you assemble yourself, and for our size kitchen (which is small, btw), it would only cost us $350 for all the base and wall cabinets. Is that even possible? I mean, I priced them online, and the cabinets only go in a straight line and the bottom measurements are 69 inches and the top 117 inches. Has anyone purchased these? Is there a catch?

the catch is they are a PITA to assemble & they can be pretty crappy if the assembly is not perfect. Home Depot & lowes also have "stock" cabinets that are assembled that come in white, Maple or oak finish. They slightly more but really worth the $$ IMO.
We used them in my kitchen 5 years ago as a temporary thing & they have held up really well.

The existing cabinets should be able to be altered to fit the dishwasher by a carpenter....this would entail sawing through them though...

Yeah, this is the other thing we're thinking about. I think we'll probably try this first and then if that doesn't work, go with getting new cabinets. We are eventually going to gut and redo our kitchen completely, so I just don't want to spend a lot right now, if any money, at all. Thanks!

Have you tried IKEA? I know Sweettooth went this route to reface her kitchen and she and her husband all did it themselves and it looks great!
