Is this normal?
Okay, I have been doing weight training and starting the HIIT and I am still running and spinning and doing yoga once a week.
I haven't lost anything, but I have noticed that my pants are looser around my waist, but tight around my thighs and but. I am thinking I am gaining muscle. I am not sure if like this or if this is normal.

Re: Is this normal?
yep you are building muscule
I would cut out the spinning- biking builds leg musclues- running doesn't
running only tones- I build leg muscle quickly so running is the only thing I will do

Re: Is this normal?
Yup, u are gaining muscle which may have added some pds but at same time probably losing some weight, which is evening it out.
All that matters is the clothes are fitting better. You have lost inches and proabably look tone. Good for you and keep up the good work.
Thats why they say dont use the scale!

I only do spinning once a week and I love this class. You really think I should cut it out?

As long as you dont let the scale run your life, I would continue to take the spin class. But if you wanted to shred pounds (per the scale) the added muscle from biking will set you back.
If you love the class, I'd continue to do so. Its certainly not a waste of your time.

if you are fine with you legs getting bulkier then keep doing it- but you didn't sound happy- do you do alot of leg weights?

Re: Is this normal?
I doubt that doing spinning once a week is causing you to gain that much muscle, unless your quads and glutes were pretty small to begin with. I'd keep doing spinning but if you want, you can lessen the resistance on the bike.
Are you doing a lot of heavy squats on your leg days? And a lot of lunges? These will build up your glutes and quads. You can always switch off and do lighter weights and higher reps. I almost always do lighter weights and higher reps for my legs so they don't get too big. Occasionally I'll switch off and do heavy weights/lower reps to mix things up.

Re: Is this normal?
I would still do the spinning classes. Like Annie said one day a week is not causing you to bulk up. I miss doing spinning classes, and cant wait to get back into them

Re: Is this normal?
the problem is that you have fat over your muscle, which is making them bigger than you want. I highly doubt that doing 60 lb squats are making your legs bulky. I do 160 lb. squats and I am a size 2. It is the fat over your muscle that is the problem. Biking is not making your muscles bigger by much.
If you keep up your diet the fat will slowly go away. This is very normal for begginers in weight training.
ps. clothing is cut for an average person- bigger waiste than thighs. the average girl has very little muscle, so the pants are cut to that. Do you want to be average, or better than average? ignor the pants problem. soon, you will like the fact that your pants are tighter on your thighs. this is a sign of a good level of fitness.

Okay, I feel better! I am ignoring my thighs, I have to say I love the fact that my pants are loose around my waist.
