Is this normal re:sleep time

Sometimes Sydnie (3 months old) will fall asleep on her own, sometimes it's in my arms and I lay her down once asleep, but she always wakes up shortly after when she realizes I am not holding her (DH says I hold her too much during the day when she sleeps). Also the last few nights she is waking 2-3 times a night not eat but just fussing until I go give her the paci. Some nights she won't wake at all though. Up til now I have been rushing to her every whimper and usually I just give her the paci and she'll calm down but she's doing it more and more. I know they say 6 months but I feel like she's working me already! Chat Icon Am I doing the right thing? Am I supposed to be rushing to her at this point? Should she still be needing me to go in there 5-10 times before she stays asleep at night? It's rather exhausting. Any suggestions?

Re: Is this normal re:sleep time

Well DS is 2 months and lately has been going down on his own. Sometimes we will go in and rock him if he starts crying, but we have never gone in if he is only fussing (whimpering or grunting). He has been sleeping from 7-2 and then takes a bottle and goes back down till 6:30 or 7. I don't think there is any harm in waiting a few minutes to see if she will go back down on her own before going in. I never rush right in and a lot of time he will fall right back to sleep Chat Icon

Re: Is this normal re:sleep time

I personally don't believe you can hold them too much. I've always held DS a lot and now at 15mos he can't stand to be held most of the time!!

At 3 mos, I think its normal to have nights when she sleeps thru and nights when she wakes often. Have you let her cry at all for any length of time during the night? Its hard b/c you dont want her to cry and get worked up and stay awake, but at the same time you dont want to be rushing in there all night long either. I'd say try one night of letting her cry a little bit (5 whole mins maybe) but go in there if the cry gets bad, like if she gets really upset before the 5 mins. Does that make sense?

I do remember shoving the paci in DS's mouth multiple times during the night at that age...but it was better than having to get up, feed and change him!!! Chat Icon

Re: Is this normal re:sleep time

My ds can go down on his own but last week he woke up a few nights and looked for a paci. As soon as i put it in hew went back to sleep. It was strange because he doesn't need to sleep usually at night. Maybe it is a little phase she is having.

This makes complete sense. I'm glad to hear your 15 mo still doesn't need to be held, I will relay the message to my DH. Chat Icon
I also read your other post...hows he doing? I'd let him CIO a little longer.

I just let her fuss and semi cry and she stopped after only 5 mins. I guess she's asleep now. Whew! I was just too scared to just let her cry at all this young but that worked OK.

Seems a lot of us are having trouble tonight. Chat Icon

Re: Is this normal re:sleep time

I think it all depends on the cry. Lily will wimper in her sleep sometimes, but she's still asleep. Then there are times (thankfully, very few) where she'll let out a scream!
If it's a screaming cry - I get her, if it's a wimper, I let her get through it.
