Is this really bad..."regifting"

My grandma on my dads side...sent Ryan this big block thing that builds forts and stuff... A toy for a child who can walk...and know enough to build a fort he can go in...Chat Icon

Either way something he wont be able to use for at the very least another 1 or 2 years...

I was gonna just return it... I have a gift reciept...but have to still buy for my 2 yr old cousin... (other side of the family...no one knows eachother from either side...and they live to totally opposite ends of the world... Plus my grandma is scenial...and dosent even know she bought the baby something (her dil sent it for her) He would really love this...and this is something I would buy for him.... Can I REGIFT IT?????

Im not keeping it for Ryan...ITS HUGE... and I am not storing this thing for another 2 yrs... plus all the other crap he already has and will acquire within the next 2 yrs....

Has the shrink wrap on the toy been opened, retaped or was the toy personalized in any way? if not, in this case i would say it is ok. usually i am really against regifting.

Re: Is this really bad..."regifting"

Im really against it too...but Ive never thought about it for a childs gift...

There is no shrink wrap...it came straight from the factory to my house in its original box...

All I did was take off the packing slip...which I would do if I was the one who ordered it to begin with....

Not personalized...its just blocks...

Re: Is this really bad..."regifting"

I don't mind regifting. I was given 4 boxes of Godiva already, that I have NO use for at all. So I just passed it along with a new card. If something isn't right for you, I would not want to keep it around just because...I think giving it to someone who would like it is fine.

I really don't see any problem with regifting in this case. The child will like it, and it will save you time in returning it and shopping for another item.

I don't see it as regifting, I see it as finding a better home for the toyChat Icon
But honestly, I think that is making good use of something your son cannot use at this time. Go for it!

Re: Is this really bad..."regifting"

although i will not do it. I got a gift that i really would never use from one of my client's parents. My mom needed a little something for a secretary so i gave it to her.

Didn't Santa & Rudolph do this very thing in the Land of Lost Toys? Think of it as helping Santa and saving yourself a trip to get another present.

If you think your cousin would appreciate the gift, there's nothing wrong with it - except your son is owed a gift. You can pay up over the years.Chat Icon

I think it is fine in this case, but what if they ask about the gift? What will you say?

i am assuming that you are not close w/ her or she doesn't live nearby since she did not give you the gift in person but if you are on good terms and see her frequently, i would keep the gift.

can't you store it away until next year when he is old enough to enjoy it? personally, i could not in good conscience send her a thank you card expressing our appreciation for a gift that i returned or regiftted.

I say go for it! It saves you stress and money. If no one will know....it's ok.

On the same note, I bought my nephew's b-day outfit at Walmart for 4.97 for Jan 31. I know it'll be hard to shop with a newborn, so I bought it the other day so all I have to do is mail it to him.

Re: Is this really bad..."regifting"

Go for it. Think of it as someone who did the shopping for you since you said you would have gotten him something like that anyway.
